In support of CIBC’s core purpose: to make our clients’ ambitions a reality, Risk Management is led by Senior Vice-President and Chief Risk Officer and is accountable for the independent oversight of risk management inherent to CIBC’s transactions and activities. These risks include but are not limited to ensuring effective processes are in place for the identification, management, measurement, monitoring and control of operational, reputation and legal, strategic, market, credit, investment and liquidity risk, collectively “CIBC Risk”, incurred by CIBC’s businesses, functional and corporate governance groups. The Compliance function sits within Risk Management and plays a key role in supporting the Bank’s businesses by helping to ensure activities are conducted in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, internal policies and standards, and regulatory expectations.
This role is intended for a recent university graduate who is eager to learn, motivated to build a career in financial services and interested in developing within a Compliance function at a global banking institution. The Associate will provide broad support to the Compliance team in Europe, gaining exposure to regulatory frameworks, governance processes and business-facing activities. The role is developmental in nature and does not require prior Compliance experience. Success will be driven by curiosity, a strong learning mindset, ownership of work and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide day-to-day support to the Compliance team across a range of activities, including preparation of documents, coordination of inputs, maintenance of trackers and records, and follow-up of actions.
- Assist senior team members with governance, reporting and monitoring activities, developing an understanding of how Compliance supports the business in a regulated environment.
- Help maintain Compliance documentation, registers and internal records, ensuring information is accurate, complete and well organised.
- Support internal projects and initiatives within the Compliance function, including process improvements and ad-hoc requests.
- Take ownership of allocated tasks and deliverables, following work through to completion and escalating issues or risks as appropriate.
- Build effective working relationships within the Compliance team and across the wider organisation.
Technology, Automation and Process Improvement
- Demonstrate strong comfort with technology and day-to-day tools such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and SharePoint.
- Show curiosity and willingness to learn how emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can be used responsibly to support the Compliance function.
- Assist the team in exploring and, where appropriate, leveraging AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency, accuracy and consistency in Compliance processes, in line with internal policies and controls.
- Support the improvement, streamlining and automation of Compliance processes, including trackers, reporting, templates and workflows.
- Actively look for inefficiencies in existing processes and suggest practical, well-thought-through solutions.
- Be open to learning new systems, tools and technologies adopted by the Compliance function and helping embed smarter ways of working.

Education and Experience
- A recent university graduate (or expected graduate), with a strong academic record.
- A degree in any discipline will be considered; interest in financial services, regulation or governance is advantageous.
- Prior Compliance experience is not required; relevant internships or placements are beneficial but not essential.
Compliance Requirements / Responsibilities
As an employee of CIBC, the incumbent must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, standards, guidelines and controls, and complete all required training.
