Job Description
Active Equities Europe is a large scale long-short market neutral strategy investing in public equities across all sectors within the EMEA region. We use long-term fundamental and data analysis to inform our security selection and build a portfolio of concentrated, high conviction, single-company investments with a high level of specific risk and maximum exposure to fundamental research.
The Senior Associate will help the EMEA Decarbonisation team generate ideas, select securities and build a portfolio supported by independent research, high quality fundamental analysis and sector expertise. The Decarbonisation team covers a mix of industrials, utilities, automotive and materials names exposed to carbon pricing and the energy transition. The Senior Associate position is senior to the Analyst and Associate positions in the team, and junior to the Portfolio Manager and Managing Director roles.
Specific Accountabilities
- Generate actionable investment ideas across the investment universe. Execute the research process end-to-end, independently or working with the team, in order to make security selection decisions and recommendations to the team.
- Participate in meetings with the management of public and private companies, industry experts and analyst calls.
- Prepare investment recommendations independently and in collaboration with the team, including creative and original research that supports a differentiated view on the security.
- Develop company financial models and valuations to support the security selection decision.
- Assist with active coverage of existing positions in the portfolio.
- Provide thoughtful input as a thought partner for new and existing positions across the global portfolio.
Qualifications
- A minimum of an undergraduate degree from a top tier university.
- Commensurate experience working for a Public Equities strategy at an investment manager / hedge fund. Equivalently, experience as an Equity Research Analyst (lead coverage preferred) on the sell side. Relevant sector experience, especially covering cyclical industries, is an asset, as is experience in shorting.
- Have a track record of academic achievement and professional advancement.
- Excellent research, analytical, financial modeling and valuation skills. Detail-oriented with an ability to produce high quality work.
- Ability to source and utilize data from a wide range of sources and formulate an independent, well-supported view that informs the security selection decision. Experience with alternative data analysis is an asset.
- Problem-solving mindset combined with a high degree of intellectual curiosity and ability to think creatively.
- Demonstrated interest in markets and the investment management process; ability to interpret company and economic news and market conditions.
- Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, with excellent abilities as a communicator (oral and written) and as a presenter. Ability to present investment ideas and analysis clearly and articulately.
- A desire to work in a collaborative, collegial culture focused on high performance.
