Team Description: CPP Investments' Infrastructure division directly invests in large-scale infrastructure assets that deliver defensive, long-term returns, provide substantial inflation protection, and carry minimal substitution risk. The division typically targets regulated utilities, transportation, telecommunications, data centers, and energy sectors, with equity investments ranging from C$500 million to several billion dollars. The team takes an active, thematic approach focused on core megatrends, with flexibility across risk, structure, and geography. The Infrastructure division currently holds more than 30 direct investments valued at approximately C$60 billion and employs over 50 professionals across six global offices.
Accountabilities:
- Analyze investment opportunities and provide recommendations
- Research, analyse and evaluate investment opportunities
- Build complex dynamic financial models to analyse investment opportunities and perform valuation analyses
- Perform due diligence on opportunities including past and projected financial performance, investment merits and risks, expected returns, regulatory environment, industry dynamics and other relevant factors
- Review 3rd party due diligence reports (legal, accounting, industry strategic reviews, environmental, etc.)
- Meet with company management and review past performance, strategy, outlook, regulatory and industry issues, and other relevant topics as required
- Assist in presenting investment recommendations to investment committees
Execute Infrastructure Investments:
- Assist with the overall execution of investments
- Lead day-to-day of selected workstreams in the acquisition process
- Liaise with investment partners and advisors
Assist in asset management of portfolio companies:
- Monitor ongoing financial and operational performance of Infrastructure investments
- Identify and help implement value creation initiatives at portfolio companies
- Assist in performing valuation reviews for Infrastructure investments
- Assist in building and leveraging relationships with portfolio company management teams
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree or college diploma in relevant field
- An advanced degree or certification (CFA) is an asset
- Work experience commensurate with an Associate level role
- Strong research, analytical, financial modeling, valuation, problem solving skills and ability to think creatively
- Experience working in deal environments including supporting acquisitions, diligence and/or asset management activities
- Advanced computer/technical skills – MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
- Solid verbal and written communication skills
