CPP Investments is seeking a talented and energetic lawyer to join our London office. You will be responsible for providing legal advice on investment transactions and asset management across CPP Investments’ credit investment strategies, with a primary focus on European credit and secondary focus on supporting the global credit business. Reporting to Head of Legal, Europe, the successful and exceptional candidate will support a global credit practice and be a member of our global legal team, working closely with other senior lawyers in CPP Investments’ international offices, with investment teams in our Credit Investments Department, and with other partners across the organization.
This role provides an excellent opportunity to work on a variety of complex, leading edge, and high-profile transactions across CPP Investments’ credit investments. Role-Specific Accountabilities:
- Work closely with deal teams to provide strategic, creative, and commercial transaction support and advice across a broad range of credit investment opportunities—including leveraged finance, real estate and infrastructure lending, structured credit, and special situations.
- Engage with deal teams and external counsel on complex deal-specific and institutional-level transactional issues.
- Provide and support training of deal teams and external counsel on institutional, department, group, and deal-specific key transactional considerations.
- Support development and implementation of Credit Investments Department-level policies, procedures, systems and training to support implementation of advice and risk management.
- Support and collaborate with the Legal department enterprise and compliance teams and other partners across the organization in relation to transaction-related matters.
- Anticipate, identify and assist in managing legal risks relating to new investment strategies and activities, and new or changed laws or regulations that impact CPP Investments’ investment strategies.
- Be a key contributor to Legal Department and CPP Investments-wide initiatives and projects.
- Generally assist on other legal matters as they arise.
Qualifications:
- LL.B./LL.M/JD or equivalent required.
- 7-10 years of post-qualification legal experience in leveraged finance, private credit, or structured credit gained at a major law firm or in-house corporate legal department.
- Significant transactional experience with leveraged buyouts, structured financial products and/or direct lending strategies is preferred.
- European and other international experience is a plus.
- MBA, CFA, CA, and/or other relevant industry designations are a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to work cooperatively with many different stakeholders and ability to manage external counsel.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility and adaptability, including off-hours support relating to transactions, international offices and projects.
