Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Medical Underwriter to help us deliver an outstanding service for our customers. Experience in medical underwriting, with a recognised underwriting authority, ideally within Life, Income Protection and Critical illness.

What You'll Do

  • To provide fair and balanced underwriting decisions within own authority limits assessing initial applications and additional medical evidence.
  • Ability to manage the end to end customer journey, from application stage through to decision.
  • Familiar with handling more complex cases and referrals whilst supporting less experienced team members.
  • As well as a strong technical background, you will also be able to demonstrate stakeholder management and communication skills, liaising with customer services, sales, reinsurance partners and medical officers.
  • Proactive approach to your own learning and development is expected to ensure that Underwriting practices and skills are continually improved.

Who You Are

  • Experience of working within a Medical Underwriting Team and making an accurate assessment of medical evidence gathered.
  • Able to underwrite for multiple Protection product lines.
  • Understanding of underwriting manuals and processes.
  • Understanding of the Protection products which require underwriting input.
  • Maintains underwriting knowledge with industry and market changes.
  • Inquisitive and Customer centric approach with an ability to think outside of the norm and challenge existing processes.
  • Ability to communicate with all types of customers and contribute to a team delivering service excellence.
  • Able to work to deadlines and manage own workload, prioritising cases when required.
  • GR1 or other industry recognised qualification (desired).
