The Role

As our Network & Security Engineer, you’ll be responsible for delivering and supporting customer network, firewall and cyber security solutions. You’ll work closely with our connectivity, telecoms and support teams to design, deploy and maintain secure, high‑performing networks for businesses across the UK. This is a hands‑on role with genuine opportunities for progression as our IT and Security division grows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Networking
    • Design, deploy and support business network solutions.
    • Configure and maintain switches, wireless infrastructure and network equipment.
    • Implement VLANs, network segmentation and routing solutions.
    • Configure and support VPN connectivity.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve network performance issues.
    • Support customer connectivity solutions including FTTP, leased lines and WAN services.
    • Assist with SD‑WAN deployments where required.
  • Security & Firewalls
    • Configure, manage and support business firewalls.
    • Implement security best practices and network hardening.
    • Manage firewall rules, policies and VPN security.
    • Assist with vulnerability assessments and remediation.
    • Support Cyber Essentials and security‑focused customer projects.
    • Help customers improve their cyber security posture.
  • Managed Services & Support
    • Monitor and maintain customer network environments.
    • Produce technical documentation and network diagrams.
    • Support customer onboarding and project delivery.
    • Provide technical assistance to internal teams.
    • Act as an escalation point for complex networking issues.
    • Deliver a high level of customer service and technical support.
  • Business Development Support
    • Assist with technical pre‑sales discussions.
    • Support solution design and customer proposals.
    • Help develop CAN Solutions' managed network and cyber security offerings.
    • Contribute ideas to improve products, processes and service delivery.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Networking
    • Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking.
    • Experience with VLANs, routing and switching.
    • DNS and DHCP administration.
    • VPN configuration and support.
    • Experience troubleshooting business network environments.
    • Knowledge of wired and wireless networking technologies.
  • Firewalls & Security
    • Experience with one or more of the following:
      • Fortinet
      • SonicWall
      • Cisco Meraki
      • WatchGuard
      • Sophos
  • Plus:
    • Good understanding of network security principles.
    • Experience implementing security best practices.
    • MFA and access control knowledge.
    • Awareness of Cyber Essentials requirements.

Personal Skills

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Customer‑focused approach.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Experience

  • MSP or Managed Services experience.
  • Fortinet NSE certifications.
  • Cisco CCNA or equivalent.
  • CompTIA Network+ or Security+.
  • Microsoft 365 and Azure networking experience.
  • Experience delivering customer projects.
  • Knowledge of SD‑WAN technologies.
  • Cyber security certifications or training.
