Head of Project Management in London

About the position
We are looking to recruit a leader for our team of experienced Project Managers. This is an opportunity to shape project delivery across a technically diverse consultancy environment, combining hands-on leadership of complex programmes with the chance to develop people, improve delivery practices, and influence how projects are run across the business.You will play a key role in driving our continuous improvement efforts, ensuring that we are staying up to date with best practice in project management, and that our projects are supported by an effective governance framework.This role is expected to be approximately 50% fee-earning / hands on (delivering large or complex projects) and 50% line management and process improvement.Success in this role will be measured by consistent delivery performance across the project portfolio, effective project governance, strong utilisation and development of the Project Management team, continuous improvement in delivery processes, and positive feedback from clients and internal stakeholders.

Full time role, reporting to SVP Engineering
Office based in Great Chesterford, Essex. Hybrid working environment with minimum of 3 days in the office.
Travel to UK and international clients where required to deliver projects, or support sales
Responsibilities
Lead continuous improvement in project and product delivery processes, ensuring strong governance and alignment with latest best practice
Own the project governance framework, including delivery reviews, escalation routes, project reporting, risk and issue management standards, and the consistent use of project management tools and templates across the portfolio.
Line Management of the team of Project Managers, including recruitment and retention, career development, pastoral care, performance management, succession planning etc.
Work closely with the other Heads of Department and the SVP Engineering to manage resourcing on our range of consulting and product development projects, balancing the needs of the business with the development ambitions of individuals
Work closely with the sales team and technical leads to scope opportunities, provide cost and time estimates, and shape proposals that are technically and commercially sound
Hands on Project Management of large or complex projects, working alongside a Technical Lead to deliver on time, to spec and within budget; managing risk, schedules, margin, delivery milestones, change control, resources and subcontractors effectively.
The Person
Essential
Proven experience managing complex design and development projects in the RF and embedded electronics domain
Proven experience working in technology consultancy, with a business-oriented mindset and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Proven experience leading and managing Project Management teams
Strong emotional intelligence and people skills, with the ability to inspire and guide high-performing teams
A confident and clear communicator, able to engage credibly and with gravitas, with clients ranging from engineers to senior executives
A continuous improvement mindset, always looking for ways to improve delivery effectiveness, strengthen project controls, simplify processes, and share learning across teams
Ideally
Experience working in the defence industry (must have or be able to get SC)
Project Management qualification such as APM, PRINCE2, PMI, or equivalent
Experience in product development as well as consultancy projects
