Role Overview

The Operational Manager will oversee the day-to-day operational performance of the business, ensuring efficient coordination across warehousing, logistics, customer service, production planning, staffing, and internal processes. The role is responsible for maintaining operational standards, improving productivity, managing teams, and supporting continued business growth within a fast-paced caravan awning and outdoor leisure environment.

As a growing business, Camptech is focused on continuing its expansion and taking the business to the next level across operations, customer service, events, and overall company performance. The Operational Manager will play a key role in supporting this growth, helping implement structure, efficiency, accountability, and operational excellence throughout the business. The Operational Manager will also act as an assistant to the Senior Director, supporting business operations, organisational planning, and strategic initiatives across the company.

This position requires strong leadership, commercial awareness, people management capability, and the confidence to make operational decisions that support company performance and culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Management
    • Oversee daily operational activities across all departments.
    • Ensure efficient workflow between sales, warehouse, logistics, purchasing, and customer service functions.
    • Monitor operational KPIs including delivery performance, stock accuracy, staffing efficiency, and service standards.
    • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement process improvements.
    • Support inventory control and stock management procedures.
    • Coordinate operational planning during peak seasonal periods and trade shows.
    • Ensure health & safety compliance across operational areas.
    • Maintain operational policies, procedures, and documentation.
    • Provide operational support and assistance to the Senior Director across business functions and projects.
  • Team Leadership & Staff Management
    • Lead, motivate, and manage operational teams to achieve company objectives.
    • Conduct regular staff meetings and performance reviews.
    • Set individual and departmental performance expectations.
    • Manage attendance, punctuality, conduct, and workplace standards.
    • Handle employee relations matters professionally and confidentially.
    • Support a positive workplace culture built around accountability, teamwork, and customer service.
  • Recruitment & Hiring Responsibilities
    • Identify staffing requirements in line with operational demands.
    • Assist in writing job descriptions and role specifications.
    • Conduct interviews and participate in recruitment decisions.
    • Oversee onboarding and probationary processes for new employees.
    • Ensure new staff receive appropriate induction, training, and support.
    • Work with department heads to develop staff capability and succession planning.
  • Disciplinary & Performance Management
    • Manage disciplinary procedures fairly and consistently in line with company policy and UK employment law.
    • Investigate workplace conduct, attendance, or performance concerns.
    • Conduct formal disciplinary meetings where required.
    • Issue verbal warnings, written warnings, and performance improvement plans where appropriate.
    • Maintain accurate records relating to disciplinary matters and staff performance.
    • Support conflict resolution and workplace issue management.
  • Employee Termination / Letting Staff Go
    • Participate in redundancy, dismissal, and termination processes where required.
    • Ensure all employee exits are handled professionally, respectfully, legally, and in line with company procedures.
    • Conduct probation review dismissals where necessary.
    • Coordinate exit procedures including return of company property and handovers.
    • Work alongside HR advisors or directors on sensitive employee matters.
    • Minimise legal and operational risk by ensuring fair process and proper documentation.
  • Events & Show Support
    • Assist the Events Manager with organising and coordinating regional and national trade shows.
    • Support exhibition planning including logistics, staffing, stock allocation, and operational setup.
    • Attend regional and industry shows representing the company professionally.
    • Assist with on-site operational management during events and exhibitions.
    • Support the Senior Director and Events Manager during key industry exhibitions and promotional events.
  • Commercial & Strategic Support
    • Assist senior management with operational planning and forecasting.
    • Contribute ideas to improve profitability, efficiency, and customer experience.
    • Support implementation of new systems, processes, or operational initiatives.
    • Help manage operational budgets and cost control measures.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Essential
    • Previous experience in operations management or senior supervisory role.
    • Strong leadership and people management skills.
    • Experience handling recruitment, disciplinary procedures, and staff management.
    • Excellent organisational and problem-solving ability.
    • Confident decision-maker with ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong understanding of operational processes and workflow management.
    • Competent with Microsoft Office and operational software systems.
  • Desirable
    • Experience within caravan, leisure, retail, manufacturing, or distribution sectors.
    • Knowledge of warehouse and logistics operations.
    • Understanding of UK employment law and HR best practices.
    • Experience coordinating exhibitions, trade shows, or events.
