Classroom Assistant (Additional SEN) (25/66/CA/WEB)
Purpose of the Job:
Due to the ongoing expansion of our school, we are recruiting for a number of Classroom Assistants (Additional Special Educational Needs) to join an established team, providing the highest possible standard of educational support and care to students with a range of complex special educational needs, and in particular, autism spectrum condition.
The post involves supporting our students to engage with the curriculum by participating in meaningful daily activities which nurture well-being and encourage the development of skills. As a Classroom Assistant, you will play a vital role in promoting independence and learning within an idyllic natural setting.
The Classroom Assistant’s role may require an element of personal care and at times will require the use of redirection or physical intervention as a last resort, with those presenting with behaviours of concern.
Please Note – this role does not meet the criteria set by the UK Home Office for the Tier 2 Health and Social Care Visa
Responsibilities
- Support students to engage with the curriculum by participating in meaningful daily activities which nurture well-being and encourage the development of skills.
- Promote independence and learning within an idyllic natural setting.
- May require an element of personal care; at times will require redirection or physical intervention as a last resort, with those presenting with behaviours of concern.
Contract, Hours & Benefits
- Closing date: 4pm – Wednesday 15th October 2025
- Salary: £22,464-£24,361 per annum (Salaries are paid equally over 12 months)
- Hours: Monday – Friday 8.30am-3.30pm, Thursday – 8.30am-2.30pm
- 34 hours per week for 49 weeks (3 weeks off duty) *
- Additional hours after school, on weekends or during off duty periods, may be available in our on-site children’s and adults’ homes if NISCC registered, through our internal bank staff facility. Glencraig meets this professional fee.
- Contract: Permanent
- Annual Leave: 55 days: 28 days plus 12 statutory days plus staff benefit from an additional 15 days off duty days*
Essential Criteria

- Level 3 Qualification
- This criterion may be waived in the case of a candidate who fulfils the Knowledge, Skills and Experience Essential Criteria.
- At least six months’ experience in an educational or caring field
- A team player
- Knowledge, understanding and experience of dealing with behaviours of concern both as an individual, and as part of a team
Desirable Criteria
- GCSE English and Mathematics to Grade C or above or equivalent
- Training in Positive Behaviour Support
- Experience in a Camphill School or SEN school setting
- Good awareness and ability in a variety of areas of learning e.g. literacy, numeracy, science, arts and crafts
