We are looking for a talented Associate Geotechnical Engineer to join our London office to lead and mentor our busy geotechnical team and further develop our geotechnical services to internal and external clients.
We are currently working on a wide range of sectors including infrastructure, specialist geotechnical design, education, health, commercial, residential, leisure, regeneration and masterplanning, and we work both in the UK and internationally.
Campbell Reith is looking for a highly motivated and experienced associate geotechnical engineer.
The role offers the candidate the opportunity to take the next step in their career, leading and developing an established team of geotechnical engineers to deliver and grow our services in this field.
You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects including, for example, slope engineering, ground movement assessment, infrastructure design and regeneration, and will be joining an independent award winning (winner of Ground Engineering Geotechnical Consulting Firm of the Year 2023).

We are an AGS member firm and our team of geotechnical engineers and environmental scientists contains highly qualified and experienced chartered engineers, geologists and scientists across the UK.
Role
You will work as part of a team on a variety of engineering projects and have the following primary tasks:
- Provide technical and professional leadership and management to your team and multidisciplinary teams within the Practice.
- Take project responsibility and provide technical/commercial knowledge to support delivery and control our exposure to risk.
- Liaise with co-professionals, clients, contractors and sub-consultants on a project basis with input to information production and execution programmes.
- Develop client and professional relationships to build your own network of contacts and strengthen existing relationships.
- Prepare bids for projects and assist in preparation of bids for large commissions. Prepare and present external technical and/or bid presentations.

As an Associate you will additionally
- Advise and update the Project Partner of any possible changes to geotechnical scope, circumstances, or programme that may impact on cost and agree actions.
- Delegate workload, monitor deliverables and help train and mentor other team members.
- Undertake site visits, surveys and inspections associated with geotechnical works.
- Manage and record health and safety risks and maintain the Site Visit Risk Assessments and Designers Risk Assessments in accordance with CDM regulations and all guidance.
- Be conversant with the Practice’s Integrated Management System, policies and procedure and ensure document control of the projects undertaken is maintained.
- Act on behalf of Campbell Reith at Design/Project meetings and promote the services and skills of the practice include negotiating and obtaining technical approvals/solutions.
- Manage project management plans, appointment documents and ensure project fee and resource information is up to date.
Education/Professional Qualifications
- BEng or BSc in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering.
- MEng or MSc (or equivalent) in Soil Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering (with a significant geotechnical component).
- Chartered status with ICE or Geological Society or similar organisation
The ideal candidate will also possess
- Flexible, enthusiastic, motivated team leadership skills.
- Significant experience of geotechnical engineering works, including project management.
- Skills to develop client and co-professional relationships and networks.
- Ability to demonstrate creativity, innovation and leadership in the investigation, evaluation, design and risk assessment of geotechnical engineering solutions for foundations, retaining structures, basements, slopes, earthworks, ground remediation, in a range of ground conditions, in accordance with all current Standards and best practice.
- Experience of typical British ground investigation techniques and construction methods, and relevant Codes.
- Recent working knowledge of geotechnical design and evaluation software such as Slope-W, Wallap, the Oasys suite of geotechnical software, Plaxis.
- Knowledge and experience of the application of the CDM Regulations.
