The Site Engineer will provide technical and supervisory support on civil engineering and groundworks projects, including roads, drainage, utilities, and site development works. The role involves setting out, surveying, monitoring progress, and ensuring compliance with project specifications, drawings, health & safety standards, and client requirements. The engineer will work closely with the Contracts Director, Site Foremen, subcontractors, and statutory bodies to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Duties
- Carry out setting out, levelling, and surveying using GPS, and site levels.
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications, ensuring works are delivered to design requirements.
- Provide technical advice and problem-solving support to site teams.
- Maintain accurate site records, as-built drawings, and quality assurance documentation.
- Site Supervision & Coordination
- Support Contracts Director and Site Foremen with planning and supervision of day-to-day site activities.
- Monitor progress against the programme, reporting on issues, delays, or risks.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and direct labour to ensure efficiency.
- Assist with measurement of works to support interim valuations and final accounts.
- Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (SHEQ)
- Ensure strict compliance with company SHEQ systems, site risk assessments, and method statements.
- Carry out site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety checks in line with company policy.
- Promote a strong safety culture and proactively address hazards.
- Ensure environmental and quality standards are upheld.
- Stakeholder Liaison
- Work with clients, architects, engineers, local authorities, and statutory agencies (e.g. NI Water, NIE, utility providers).
- Ensure good communication and professional relationships are maintained throughout projects.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years’ site engineering experience in civil engineering/groundworks (roads, drainage, and utilities preferred).
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering construction methods, materials, and techniques.
- Proficient in surveying equipment, AutoCAD, and MS Office.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid CSR card (Essential).
- Valid driving licence.
