We are looking for someone able to cover this role initially for a 12-month period, potentially longer with a quality career path. This is a hands-on role focused on inspecting mechanical components, supporting QA activities, and working closely with production and customers to ensure we are meeting standards and specifications.

Known across the globe at our Birkenhead facility, on the banks of the River Mersey, we expand across 130 acres which includes four dry docks, a large modular construction hall and extensive covered workshops. We have played a strategic role in UK shipbuilding for the past 200 years, repairing, maintaining and building ships and other vessels.

Working as part of our wider QHSE team and ensuring our project critical path is on track, you will carry out mechanical inspections and job verification activities in line with inspection and test plans:

  • Measure mechanical components and check tolerances against drawings and specifications i.e. engine components, pumps, valves, coolers etc.
  • Complete accurate inspection reports and record findings clearly.
  • Organise sub-contract NDT activities.
  • Liaise with customers, classification inspectors, production teams, and subcontractors to support quality requirements.
  • Help identify issues, solve problems, and support final acceptance of completed work.

We are looking for someone who is ideally time served with experience gained in Marine Ship Building / Repair or Heavy Engineering:

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and identify mechanical components.
  • Good understanding of engineering principles, codes, and standards.
  • Someone who is internal Auditor trained.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with customers and internal teams.
  • Computer literate, with the ability to produce reports and maintain records.
  • Able to work independently, manage priorities, and perform well under pressure.
