Our client, a leading industrial services and fabrication company, is seeking a Management Accountant to join their team on a permanent basis. This UK-based remote role will involve occasional travel to Lerwick, Shetland.
ROLE
This is a substantive, commercially focused management accounting role reporting directly to the senior finance and commercial leadership of the business. It is not a backoffice position; you will be a key part of a small, high-functioning team, working across all three business units and contributing to strategic financial decision-making as well as day-to-day reporting. The business has significant commercial complexity: multiple revenue streams, project-based contracts with varying billing structures, and invoice finance facilities. The successful candidate will thrive in this environment and bring both technical rigour and commercial curiosity to the role.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Financial Reporting & Management Accounts
- Preparation of monthly management accounts for all three business units (SVT, FAB, FM)
- Variance analysis against budget and prior year, with clear narrative for leadership
- Maintenance of the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow position on a rolling basis
- KPI tracking and commercial performance reporting by division and contract
- Cash Flow & Working Capital
- Day-to-day cash flow monitoring, forecasting, and reporting
- Invoice finance facility management, including reconciliation and drawdown oversight
- Creditor and debtor management in coordination with project managers and the commercial team
- Budgeting & Forecasting
- Annual budget preparation in collaboration with divisional leads and the senior commercial team
- Rolling reforecasts and scenario modelling to support commercial and strategic decisions
- Capex tracking and project cost reporting
- Commercial & Statutory Support
- Support to the year-end statutory accounts preparation and liaison with external auditors
- VAT returns, payroll reconciliation checks, and HMRC compliance support
- Preparation of board-level financial packs and ad hoc reporting for senior leadership
- Ad hoc analysis and financial modelling as required by the senior commercial team
REQUIREMENTS
We are looking for a qualified or nearly qualified accountant who combines technical competence with genuine commercial interest. You should be comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced environment and confident presenting financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
Essential
- ACCA, CIMA, or ICAS qualified (or finalist - QBE applications considered where experience is strong)
- Proven experience preparing management accounts in a multi-entity or multi-cost-centre environment
- Strong Excel skills including financial modelling, pivot tables, and variance analysis
- Solid understanding of cash flow management and working capital dynamics
- Ability to work with project managers and operational leads to understand cost drivers
- High attention to detail and comfort managing competing priorities to deadline
Desirable
- Experience in construction, engineering, energy, or other project-based industries
- Familiarity with invoice finance or asset-backed lending facilities
- Experience with Sage, Xero, or similar accounting platforms
