We have a requirement for a Materials Rationalisation Focal Point to join a large independent Oil & Gas operator based in Aberdeen. This is an initial 12-month contract. The role offers a hybrid working arrangement and 33 days of annual leave. This will be an Agency Worker / PAYE contract.
ROLE
The purpose of Materials Rationalisation is to optimise materials management by eliminating duplication, standardising inventory in line with the Spare Parts Management Guideline and reducing unnecessary complexity across the supply chain. Through data cleansing, consolidation, and alignment with engineering and operational requirements, the materials rationalisation role will ensure that only the right materials are created, stocked, and purchased. The rationalisation is to analyse inventory for value reduction, improved master data accuracy, improved compliance with materials standards and governance, ensuring all critical spares are linked to Asset/Location and Bill of Materials (BOM) as per OEM/Engineering recommendations. Data analysis to ensure materials are sourced to the right place, at the right time, at the right price, at the right quantity, and to the right quality.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Report on stock reduction, inventory value changes, master data accuracy (Spares Parts List & BOM‘s), and rationalisation progress.
- Maintain and be accountable for KPI’s and rationalisation plan progress, providing data for dashboards and performance metrics.
- Provide insights and recommendations for ongoing improvements and supplier leverage to reduce risk.
- Visit sites to complete physical analysis of materials and document all technical queries with Job Responsible Engineer (JRE’s) to completion.
- Oversee the review of inventory levels ensuring any excess can be eliminated or justified.
- Ensure effective and efficient investment recovery takes place for all disposals.
- Capture metrics related to accuracy, timeliness, process efficiency, and other relevant Materials rationalisation data points, and communicate with team and challenge team members to elevate performance levels.
- Champion inventory best practices and drive expectations of inventory management with team members and internal stakeholders.
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience Background in Materials Management, Procurement, Supply Chain, or Engineering.
- Experience with material master data, catalogue management, or inventory optimisation projects.
- Demonstrated delivery of rationalisation or standardisation initiatives.
- Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related discipline (preferred).
- Six Sigma experience and training.

- Strong understanding of material management, supply chain principles, and inventory optimisation.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets.
- ERP proficiency (SAP/MM/Maximo) or equivalent systems experience.
