Our client is seeking an Electrical Systems Manager to join their Aberdeen team on a permanent staff basis. The role is based in Aberdeen and will require regular travel to Orkney.
ROLE
The Electrical Systems Manager - Renewables role is responsible for the management and maintenance of all high voltage electrical systems across the Renewables workstream, with a focus on project management and contestable works. This includes overseeing the associated Electrical support team and Turbine Technicians, coordinating with Contractors and Vendors, and ensuring compliance with all relevant safety regulations and industry standards. This role is required to work closely with the Work Management Coordinator for local / daily planning and coordination.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operational Management
- Provide regular project status updates to internal and external stakeholders, including the Leadership team and board.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for improvement in service delivery and make recommendations for change to processes and procedures.
- Ensure timely completion of service reporting including materials consumption to allow timely billing to clients, by developing standard protocols that are easy to follow and provide a framework to scale the business.
- Support effective cost management and reporting for all Renewables works.
- Manage project risks and issues (and escalate as necessary).
- Conduct regular team meetings, performance reviews, and training sessions.
- Develop and maintain good industry relationships with customers and regulatory bodies.
- Attend and participate in internal/external meetings and forums, as appropriate.
- Provide support and input to internal audits.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Technical Delivery
- Manage and coordinate service and project activities across multiple wind farms and sites across Orkney, Shetland, Western Isles and mainland Scotland.
- Remote support and management of the delivery team local to Kirkwall, Orkney, supporting the associated training and competency of personnel.
- Close liaison with the Work Management Coordinator.
- Manage the operation and maintenance of all high voltage electrical systems, including transformers, switchgear, and distribution panels.
- Develop and implement strategies for the maintenance and repair of electrical systems, including preventative maintenance schedules and emergency response plans.
- Lead the development and implementation of electrical projects, including the preparation of project plans, budgets, and schedules.
- Assist with operational wind turbine troubleshooting when required to support the organisational growth plans.
- Assist with the supervision and training of Electrical support team and Turbine Technicians, including scheduling, performance evaluations, and professional development.
- Coordinate with Contractors and Vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective repairs and upgrades to electrical systems, including the management of contestable works.
- Collaborate with other departments/functions to identify and address electrical needs, and to ensure smooth operation of all electrical systems.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and industry standards, including OSHA regulations and National Electrical Code standards.
- Develop and maintain accurate documentation of all electrical systems, including schematics, diagrams, and maintenance records.
- Work closely with the Group leadership team to determine the strategic direction of Renewables.
- Responsible for Company Safety Rules and associated documentation to support the Renewables business.
REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is desirable.
- Appropriate vocational qualifications or certification in trade/discipline i.e. HNC or NVQ level 3 – Electrical, is essential.
- Extensive experience in the maintenance and repair of high voltage electrical systems is essential.
- Strong knowledge of relevant safety regulations and industry standards, including experience with contestable works, is essential.
- Sound knowledge of wind farm service and project management processes and procedures is essential.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment is essential.
- Full UK Driving Licence is essential.
- Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a managerial role within the renewable energy sector, preferably wind energy, is preferred.
- Proven experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously, preferably in a service environment.
- Strong understanding of turbine operations, maintenance planning, and safety protocols is essential.
- Onshore wind turbine experience is preferred.
- Prior experience in performing SAP duties (Internal / External) is essential.
- Demonstrated success in business development or commercial strategy is preferred.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to lead and manage electrical projects from start to finish, is essential.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams is essential.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills are essential.
- Ability to co-ordinate daily routines and prioritise accordingly is essential.
- Good awareness of work planning and scheduling is essential.
- Financial literacy and experience managing budgets and reporting is essential.
- Previous experience in a technical-based project management role is essential.
- Ability to work independently and manage conflicting priorities is essential.
- Experience in risk and change management is preferred.
