Picture this: Working outside in the glorious UK countryside as part of a small but perfectly formed team. Operating machinery in stunning rural locations and seeing the results of your work take shape in real time. Physical graft, but with enough challenge and variety to keep your grey matter active too. If this sounds appealing, please read on.

We are looking for an experienced Excavator Operator to join us, working within our specialist renewable energy team. Our office is located in Northampton, but you’ll be field‑based (often, literally) working throughout the UK on utility‑scale solar farm projects, helping deliver specialist end‑to‑end security infrastructure.

This is a hands‑on role where you’ll play a key part in preparing and delivering critical groundwork activities. Day‑to‑day, this will involve operating ±10 tonne excavators with tilt rotators to complete trenching, pit excavation and backfilling works, alongside supporting wider site activities as part of a close‑knit project team.

You’ll need to be comfortable operating machinery accurately and safely in a variety of environments and conditions, and previous experience operating excavators with tilt rotator attachments is essential. A valid CPCS or NPORS excavator operator ticket is a must.

You’ll need to be practically minded and not afraid of long days or the worst of the British weather — but it’s your appetite for being a key player within a committed, can‑do and collaborative team that is vital.

We’ll also expect you to be solutions‑oriented, respectful and reliable, with excellent communication skills, fantastic attention to detail and a commitment to safe working practices.

At CTSG you’ll never be “just an employee”. Our team comes first and we genuinely care about every person who works with us. We’ll make the effort to get to know you and understand how we can bring out your best.

What does matter is your readiness to embrace our values and contribute positively to a business riding a change curve. As open‑minded as we are, there are a few non‑negotiables:

  • Valid CPCS or NPORS Excavator Operator ticket
  • Experience in trenching, pit excavation and backfilling
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Flexibility to travel and stay away throughout the working week
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Reliable, hardworking and a genuine team player

Our projects are located throughout the UK, and regular travel with overnight stays are part of the role — but trust us, we’ll look after you. Accommodation, travel pay, expenses and overtime are provided where appropriate.

On top of working in a friendly, highly supportive and fun environment, you can expect much more. We offer a competitive starting salary of between £36,000–40,000 per annum, depending upon your precise experience, and if you flourish, we’ll ensure you’re never underpaid. We believe in rewarding people according to their contribution — if your attitude is awesome and we can depend upon you to deliver, you’ll never need to ask for a pay rise.

Naturally, you’ll be provided with everything needed to get the job done. You’ll also join a progressive business that appreciates balance — we’re here for the good as well as the grind.

We’ll also provide a bonus day off on us to celebrate your birthday and membership to a Healthcare cash‑back scheme.

We’d love to hear from you. Please send your CV and a quick cover letter telling us why.

CTSG is an equal opportunities employer committed to a culture of equity and inclusion. Please let us know if you require any support during the selection process.
