The Opportunity

We're looking for a Power Systems Engineer to join our growing team and play a key role in developing innovative solutions for electricity distribution networks.

In this role, you'll work alongside software engineers, data scientists and technical specialists to transform complex power system challenges into practical, data‑driven solutions. You'll develop advanced network models and algorithms, provide technical expertise on UK distribution networks and help shape products that support Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) in making smarter operational and planning decisions.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working across disciplines and seeing their work create real‑world impact.

If you're passionate about power systems, innovation and the future of energy, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Develop, validate and maintain power system network models and associated methodologies.
  • Design, develop and test robust algorithms for power system analysis, optimisation and planning.
  • Analyse network, operational and time‑series data to validate models, identify opportunities for improvement and troubleshoot issues.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on UK electricity distribution networks within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Collaborate closely with software engineers and data scientists to translate engineering methodologies into scalable solutions.
  • Engage with customers to understand their challenges and help define effective technical solutions.
  • Clearly communicate technical concepts, methodologies and recommendations to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Manage priorities across multiple projects and adapt effectively to changing business needs.

What We're Looking For

  • Degree in Electrical Power Systems, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related numerate discipline.
  • Strong understanding of electricity distribution networks, electrical load behaviour and the modelling of time‑series demand and distributed generation.
  • Experience performing power system studies such as load flow, fault level, switching or transient analysis.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical and statistical problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Bonus Points If You Have

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Power Systems, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Industry experience within power systems engineering.
  • Strong understanding of UK electricity distribution networks across EHV, HV and LV systems.
  • Experience with power system modelling and simulation tools such as PandaPower, PowerFactory, NEPLAN, IPSA, PSCAD or WinDebut.
  • Knowledge of network planning and operational challenges relating to distributed energy resources and large‑scale connections.
  • Familiarity with relevant UK industry standards, Engineering Recommendations (ERECs) and the UK Distribution Code.
  • Python programming experience.
  • Experience working with sampled data and signal processing techniques.
  • Understanding of software development practices and version control systems such as Git or SVN.

What Makes You Successful

You'll thrive in this role if you are:

  • Curious and motivated by solving challenging technical problems.
  • Detail‑oriented, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as collaborating within cross‑functional teams.
  • Passionate about delivering high‑quality work and continuous improvement.
  • Open to feedback and committed to ongoing professional development.
  • A strong communicator who can explain complex ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Analytical in your thinking and confident challenging assumptions to drive better outcomes.
  • Interested in the intersection of engineering, data and technology.

Why Join Camlin?
