The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing cutting–edge electro–mechanical products for the Energy Utilities and Renewables industries. As a member of the Mechanical Engineering team, you will develop complex industrial products whilst ensuring our products meet stringent performance and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop, test and evaluate mechanical designs for the Energy industry in accordance with Camlin NPI process, while complying with industry standards and regulations.
- Apply sound knowledge of engineering principles to evaluate mechanical and electro–mechanical products.
- Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance, best practices, and support for skill development.
- Create and maintain engineering drawings, technical specifications and test plans in accordance with Camlin best practice.
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BoM) and work with Purchasing to identify appropriate suppliers.
- Ensure that products will perform consistently in specified operating environments, meeting Camlin quality and customer expectations.
- Contribute to oversight and management of Camlin's Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system including quality checks of engineering changes, administration of user roles and supporting CAD integration with PLM.
- Apply Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFM, DFA) techniques, including standardisation of processes and technologies, to ensure cost–effective and efficient design.
- Collaborate with other engineering functions, and other departments including the Operations team.
- Take active part in design reviews, design evaluations, and testing to uphold high–quality standards.
- Proactively challenge and drive the organisation to continually improve quality and performance of engineering design.
Qualifications
- A minimum 2:1 degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline, or practical work experience commensurate to a 3rd level education.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in a mechanical engineering environment with a focus on product design and/or development.
- Experience with Solid Edge or similar CAD packages.
- Comprehensive understanding of core mechanical engineering principles.
- Ability to design cost effective solutions from specifications against agreed budget and timescale requirements.
- Strong problem–solving skills and the ability to address technical challenges.
- Ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands.
- Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate effective collaboration within the team and with other departments.
Valuable Skills
- Experience with prototype testing / verification and failure analysis.
- Practical, hands–on experience, with part manufacture and prototype assembly.
