WHAT TO EXPECT DAY TO DAY
We are seeking to appoint a Technical Applications Engineer based at our Lisburn office. The Technical Applications Engineer, within the Business Development Team, is a key member of the global commercial organization, responsible for driving the technical excellence and competitiveness of bids and proposals across multiple regions. This role supports regional sales teams by reviewing customer technical specifications, developing compliant and optimized technical proposals, and positioning the company's offerings competitively. The role combines technical expertise with a commercial mindset, understanding the aims of the customer, and ensuring that our offerings maximise the value that we deliver to our customers.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the technical evaluation of customer specifications, tender documents, and scope of work across multiple markets for all offerings.
- Coordinate globally with Sales and Business Development teams to produce aligned, competitive, and technically robust proposals.
- Contribute to the development of winning technical positioning strategies for key tenders and target accounts.
- Work cross functionally with Product Management, Engineering, Customers Services, Marketing and other functions when required.
- Support Sales Managers in technical discussions and presentations with customers on system functionality and capabilities including occasional product demonstrations.
- Propose technical configurations or system architectures that meet customer and project requirements.
- Provide technical clarifications and documentation during pre-bid and post-bid phases, working cross functionally to ensure alignment on commercial and delivery aspects.
The Technical Applications Engineer will also provide training to our staff and partners:
- Provide training and knowledge sharing on technical standards, product features, and solution optimization to customers and internal staff.
- Support Partner Channel Manager to qualify and onboard Distributors and Agents including training and technical sales support both remotely and at customer/channel location.
- Build credibility as a trusted technical advisor to customers and partners.
Furthermore, the role will support the business to understand developments in the various markets in which we operate:
- Support market research on new products and market trends as required.
- Support the marketing team with marketing strategy and content as required.
- Understand voice of customer and provide feedback to internal teams on product enhancement and new product introduction.
- Conduct global competitor benchmarking to identify differentiators in product design, system configuration, and performance and how they are marketing and selling their solutions, translating competitive insights into actionable recommendations for sales, marketing, and product teams.
Continuously improving processes within the role will be a key measures of success:
- Develop, implement and improve processes and tools to support business operations and improvements, including the use of AI tools.
- Develop and maintain global templates and best practices for technical submissions and proposal documentation.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
- Personable and ability to work across language and culture.
- Knowledge of electrical equipment, including transformers, generators, cables, circuit breakers and a desire to continuously learn and develop deeper domain expertise.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and CRM tools like Salesforce.
- Understanding of industrial communication protocols (i.e. MODBUS, DNP3, IEC61850).
- Knowledge of sector regulatory environments, including internationally, and Innovation Funding channels will be a plus.
- Excellent command of English.
- Willingness to travel internationally.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar relevant qualification.
DESIRABLE
- Willingness to work additional hours and the flexibility to work occasional weekends may also be required.
- Experience working within a business development or other customer facing environment.
