What To Expect Day to Day
You will ensure that system level requirements, interfaces, architectural decisions, and verification strategies are robust, traceable, and aligned with real world deployment conditions. Expect close collaboration with electronics, firmware, mechanical, platform, cloud, and field engineering teams to deliver predictable, high quality results.
Key Responsibilities
- Systems Engineering Leadership
- Drive the end-to-end system architecture for IoT products used in LV and/or HV environments, ensuring seamless integration of hardware, embedded software, connectivity, power, and security subsystems.
- Define system concepts, operational scenarios, environmental assumptions, constraints, and success criteria across energy sector applications.
- Apply structured systems engineering processes including requirements engineering, architecture definition, integration planning, risk management, and verification/validation.
- Support decisions through modelling, simulations, trade studies, and engineering rationale.
- Requirements & Architecture Management
- Translate stakeholder needs into clear, testable system requirements across functional, performance, environmental, mechanical, and safety domains.
- Develop and maintain system artefacts such as block diagrams, interface control documents (ICDs), behavioural flows, deployment models, and system interaction diagrams.
- Ensure traceability between requirements, design choices, risks, and verification evidence.
- Manage constraints relating to manufacturability, cybersecurity, EMC/EMI, mechanical limitations, insulation requirements (where HV applies), and field operating conditions.
- Integration & Technical Coordination
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams (electronics, firmware, mechanical, FPGA, DSP, platform software) to resolve subsystem interfaces early.
- Lead integration sequencing, subsystem bring-up activities, and risk reduction.
- Oversee prototyping, technical investigations, system evaluations, and fault analysis.
- Facilitate root-cause analysis and ensure technical alignment across teams during integration challenges.
- Verification, Validation & Quality
- Develop system-level verification and validation plans with coverage tailored to LV and/or HV requirements, including functional tests, environmental testing, EMC/EMI, electrical safety, thermal behaviour, and interoperability.
- Ensure readiness for field deployment including performance validation, durability, safety checks, and compliance with sector standards.
- Work with project management to ensure quality gates and acceptance criteria are met for hardware, firmware, and integrated system releases.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with cloud, mobile, and data teams to ensure end-to-end IoT system alignment.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, and field operations to ensure products—LV and/or HV—are buildable, serviceable, maintainable, and robust in real-world energy environments.
- Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to maintain alignment on risks, decisions, and impacts.
Qualifications
- Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, or similar discipline.
- Proven experience delivering physical IoT devices integrating electronics, sensors, embedded firmware, and mechanical components.
- Experience working with low-voltage systems, high-voltage systems, or both, ideally in the energy sector.
- Strong understanding of system lifecycle processes including requirements analysis, architecture definition, integration, verification, validation, and risk management.
- Deep knowledge of embedded/realtime systems, microcontrollers, sensor chains, power systems, and hardware–software interactions.
- Experience defining and managing complex hardware–software interfaces in LV and/or HV contexts.
- Familiarity with IoT communication technologies.
- Ability to perform system trade studies, failure analysis, and structured decision-making.
- Strong capability in producing system artefacts: architecture diagrams, behaviour models, test matrices, lifecycle documentation.
- Experience with Agile or hybrid methodologies for hardware–software co-development.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical perspectives.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
