We are partnering with a well-established recruitment business to appoint an Interim Financial Controller to support a high‑performing but lean finance team through a busy period. This is a hands‑on role in a business of real scale, where finance is close to decision making and you can see the impact of your work quickly. The assignment is ideal for a technically strong, delivery‑focused controller who enjoys getting into the detail while also mentoring and developing others.
You will take day-to-day ownership of the finance function, ensuring robust month-end close, balance sheet control, cash management and insightful reporting to senior leadership. You will be highly proficient in Excel and comfortable building and improving models, reconciliations and working files, as well as using Power BI to turn data into clear, visual MI for non-finance stakeholders. You will actively identify process improvements, streamline reporting and help the business sharpen its use of data to drive margin and productivity.
Key responsibilities- Lead and own the month-end close process, delivering accurate and timely P&L, balance sheet and cash reporting.
- Coordinate, analyse and report financial performance to senior management, including monthly results, projections and ad hoc analysis.
- Monitor financial performance, working with FP&A (or equivalent) to understand variances and initiate corrective actions.
- Build and enhance Excel models for revenue, contractor margin, commissions and overhead tracking.
- Design and maintain Power BI dashboards to provide clear, actionable insight for finance and non‑finance stakeholders.
- Develop, review and maintain compliance with internal accounting policies, procedures and internal controls, safeguarding the organisation’s assets.
- Implement and strengthen practical internal controls across key processes (pay & bill, credit control, reconciliations, approvals).
- Act as key liaison for external auditors and other advisors, ensuring all statutory and commercial reporting requirements are met.
- Support evaluation and financial due diligence on any in‑flight projects during the assignment, providing clear financial insight and challenge.
- Lead, coach and mentor a small operational finance team, fostering a high‑performance culture and ensuring delivery of accurate, timely reporting and insight.
Leading a small team, you will combine a “sleeves‑rolled‑up” approach with a supportive leadership style, coaching and mentoring team members to raise capability and confidence. You will be comfortable operating in a fast-paced recruitment environment, ideally bringing experience from a people-centric business, able to challenge and support the business on revenue recognition, contractor margins, working capital and overhead control. This role suits an immediately available, action‑oriented Interim Financial Controller with strong Excel and Power BI skills who enjoys both doing and developing others.
