A fast-growing, VC-backed construction recruitment group is seeking an experienced Senior Financial Controller to lead its finance function through its next phase of growth and transformation. Operating in a high-volume, payroll-intensive environment, this role is critical to ensuring robust financial control, scalable systems, and high-quality commercial insight. The successful candidate will work closely with the senior leadership team, playing a key role in professionalising finance processes and supporting continued expansion.
The Role
As Senior Financial Controller, you will take ownership of financial operations, reporting, and controls across the group, while leading system improvements and strengthening payroll and billing infrastructure. This role suits a hands-on, delivery-focused finance leader with experience in recruitment or similarly complex, people-led businesses.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all financial control, reporting, and month-end processes across the group
- Prepare and review management accounts, statutory reporting, and board-level packs
- Own budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning
- Lead the implementation and optimisation of payroll systems and related finance technology
- Oversee high-volume payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and scalability
- Strengthen internal controls, governance, and risk management frameworks
- Partner with senior leadership to provide commercial insight and support strategic decision-making
- Manage, develop, and scale the finance team in line with business growth
Skills & Experience
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Senior Financial Controller or equivalent experience within recruitment, staffing, or payroll-intensive environments
- Proven experience leading payroll software implementation or major payroll system change
- Strong technical accounting and financial control expertise
- Experience operating in high-growth businesses
- Confident working in complex, fast-paced environments with multiple stakeholders
