At Camfil we are now seeking an experienced Operations Director to lead all aspects of our UK Operations. Based at our Haslingden site and reporting to the Managing Director UK, you will take full strategic and operational responsibility for manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, supply chain, logistics, and SHEQ compliance across our two UK locations overseeing a production team of about 150. This role will also require travel to our site in Gillingham, Kent to ensure consistent leadership, alignment, and operational excellence across the full UK network.
The ideal candidate will bring proven experience from manufacturing and production management and a demonstrated track record of process optimizations. You will define and implement improvement initiatives ensuring our operations are carried out to the highest standards. This is a high-impact, senior leadership role where you will shape the future of Camfil's UK operations driving excellence, strengthening our people and processes, and ensuring we continue to deliver world-class clean air solutions to our customers.
In the UK, Camfil operates two major manufacturing sites located in Haslingden, Lancashire and Gillingham, Kent, employing around 250 passionate colleagues who bring our purpose to life each day.
Key Role Priorities:- Oversee all manufacturing operations, including production, engineering/maintenance, and inventory control.
- Ensure production output meets customer demand, quality standards, and delivery targets.
- Lead short, medium, and long-term capacity planning aligned with sales and operational forecasts.
- Manage production planning, resource allocation, and daily performance.
- Monitor and report key KPIs (safety, quality, cost, delivery, inventory) to the Senior Leadership Team.
- Set and execute manufacturing objectives aligned with overall business strategy.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
- Implement new technologies and automation where appropriate.
- Maintain and actively foster a positive employer brand and Camfil's position as an Employer of Choice in the region.
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory, safety, health, environmental, and quality standards.
- Drive a positive safety culture and ensure adherence to ISO and other quality frameworks.
- Own operational budgets, cost control and P&L performance.
- Optimise capacity, reduce costs and support business growth through scalable operations.
- Lead and develop operational leadership teams and department managers.
- Build and sustain high-performing teams by recruiting, training, coaching, performance-managing, and ensuring effective succession planning for operational staff.
- Build high-performing culture focused on safety, accountability and engagement.
- Lead supply chain to ensure strategic management of inventory and procurement targets and KPIs.
- Work closely with procurement, logistics, quality and commercial teams.
- Ensure raw materials, components and service meets cost, quality and delivery requirements.
- Maintain strong supplier and customer relationships.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- 10+ years' experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (e.g., air filtration, pharma, chemicals, automotive).
- 10+ years' leadership experience managing large teams and leading organisational change.
- Proven experience in multi-site and high-volume manufacturing operations.
- Strong knowledge of production processes, industrial operations, and continuous improvement.
- Experience managing operational budgets and P&L.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and change management skills.
- Strong commercial mindset and customer focus.
- Experience analysing performance metrics and operational data.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems or similar platforms.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics D365 would be an advantage.
- Ability to work across all business levels and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience implementing advanced automation or digital manufacturing technologies.
- Knowledge of industry innovations or emerging production technologies.
- Strong track record in talent management, coaching, and succession planning.
