The role
A well-established international bank in the City of London is hiring an IT Infrastructure Engineer to join its small, close-knit IT team. This is a genuinely broad infrastructure role. You'll own the day-to-day health of the bank's on-premise estate — servers, virtualisation, network, backup and DR — alongside Tier 2 support for the business. If you're currently in a support role and want to move properly into infrastructure, or you're an infrastructure engineer who wants ownership rather than a ticket queue, this is a strong step. You'll report to the Deputy Head of IT and work directly with the Infrastructure Manager.
What you'll be doing
- Maintaining and improving the bank's server, storage, network and backup infrastructure
- Managing the virtual platform (VMware / vSphere / ESXi) and the physical estate, including server room, UPS and power
- Monitoring performance and capacity, and resolving issues as they arise
- Supporting disaster recovery planning and testing to meet regulatory requirements
- Running IT asset and configuration management, and producing regular reporting
- Writing and maintaining IT procedures, manuals and operational guidelines
- Liaising with the overseas head office and data centre teams
- Providing Tier 2 support and IT guidance to staff across the bank
What we're looking for
- 3+ years in an IT infrastructure or senior support role
- Windows Server (2019+) and Windows 10/11
- Core Microsoft infrastructure: Active Directory, Exchange, RDS, DFS
- Virtualisation: VMware / vSphere
- Backup technologies: Veeam, Backup Exec or similar
- Firewall, router and switch configuration (Cisco, Juniper, HP or Huawei)
- Server hardware maintenance and troubleshooting
- Fluent Mandarin and English, written and spoken — you’ll be reporting to and corresponding with the overseas head office
- Financial services or other regulated environment experience
- Certifications: MCSA / MCSE / VMware VCP / CCNA / CCNP
Why this one is worth a look
- A small team where you'll touch every part of the infrastructure, not one narrow slice
- Stable, low-turnover environment with a genuine work-life balance
- Real ownership and visibility with senior management from day one
- Discretionary bonus, strong pension and private medical cover
