Our client, a small but growing energy trading company, is seeking an experienced Fuel Oil Derivatives Trader to join its Dubai-based trading team. The role focuses on market making, risk management, and consistent P&L generation across fuel oil derivative products. The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of global fuel oil markets and a proven ability to perform in a fast-paced trading environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively market make fuel oil derivative products, including swaps, futures, and structured trades
- Generate and manage short- to medium-term P&L within agreed risk limits
- Develop and execute trading strategies informed by market fundamentals, flows, and technical analysis
- Monitor global fuel oil supply/demand dynamics, refinery economics, and macroeconomic drivers
- Maintain and develop strong relationships with brokers, counterparties, and internal teams
- Ensure adherence to internal risk controls, credit policies, and regulatory requirements
- Contribute to desk performance through idea generation and continuous improvement of trading strategies
Key Requirements
- At least 4–5 years’ experience in trading or market making fuel oil derivatives
- Proven track record of consistent P&L generation
- Strong understanding of fuel oil pricing, spreads, and related energy markets
- Demonstrated ability to manage risk effectively in volatile market conditions
- Strong commercial judgement and decision-making capability
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work within a team-oriented trading environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related discipline preferred
- Experience trading correlated products (e.g. crude oil, middle distillates, or emissions)
- Familiarity with both OTC and exchange-traded derivatives
- Strong analytical or quantitative skill set
