About the Role
As an Assistant Portfolio Manager you will:
- Join their trading team, assisting with the instruction and verification of fund trades through our order management system.
- Support the ongoing management of their portfolios across a range of data systems and industry software.
- Develop a deep understanding of their investment offering in order to support our clients (financial advisers).
- Respond to ad-hoc qualitative and quantitative queries from financial advisers regarding portfolio performance and broader macroeconomic trends.
- Prepare portfolio comparison reports for clients, analysing performance, exposures, and risk across various investment solutions.
- Support the fund investment research process, including producing research reports and participating in meetings with fund managers.
- Produce written content on markets, investment performance, and other topics relevant to financial advisers, including contributions to monthly, quarterly, and annual investment commentaries.
- Prepare and present analytical insights to their Investment Committee and other internal committees.
- Assist in the development and management of internal tools and software, primarily Python-based.
- Attend industry events on behalf of their, gathering relevant insights and building industry relationships.
- Embrace technology and artificial intelligence tools to enhance efficiency across investment processes.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will:
- Demonstrate a strong interest in investment theory, financial markets, macroeconomics, and technology.
- Ideally hold a degree in a relevant field such as finance, economics, or investment management.
- Be confident and articulate, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Be highly numerate, with strong analytical capabilities.
- Be proficient in Excel, with experience analysing financial data.
- Possess coding skills, including intermediate to advanced knowledge of Python.
- Show an interest in developments in Artificial Intelligence, including familiarity with large language models such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.
- Demonstrate the ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects effectively.
- Be motivated to study for the CFA UK Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification (study support will be provided).
- Have strong writing skills, with the ability to produce market commentary and research notes.
- Demonstrate a proactive, problem-solving mindset with a willingness to take ownership and responsibility for tasks and projects.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting clients (financial advisers) by providing insights into portfolio exposures, performance, and asset allocations.
- Collecting, curating, and communicating information on their portfolios in response to client queries.
- Maintaining data integration with third parties, including building investment models within analytical tools and supplying required portfolio data.
- Preparing investment data packs and analytical materials for internal meetings.
- Supporting the management and maintenance of portfolio data across both their internal systems and third-party platforms.
- Acting as a liaison between their Investment Team and Development Team, as well as other internal departments.
- Supporting their client-facing activities, including webinars, workshops, and industry events.
- Contributing to monthly, quarterly, and annual investment commentaries.
- Assessing, analysing, and implementing automated workflows across the organisation to improve efficiency.
