We are recruiting an experienced Commercial Broking Office Manager to join a fast-growing, award-winning insurance brokerage specialising in SME clients across the UK. This is a senior, hands-on role combining technical referral authority, people leadership, and operational oversight.
The Role
- Act as second-in-command to the Managing Director, supporting strategic planning and day-to-day operational management
- Serve as the primary technical referral point for the broking teams, providing expert guidance on commercial package policies, complex renewals, and new business placements
- Oversee and support Team Leaders, ensuring technical standards, compliance, and consistent quality of advice across sales and renewals
- Maintain ownership of technical governance, including insurer trading queries, referral outcomes, and adherence to underwriting authority
- Manage key operational functions such as daily performance reporting, lead allocation, file audits, complaints handling, and participation in senior management meetings
- Step in to handle and complete complex quotes and referrals where required, leading by example
- Represent the business at industry events, insurer meetings, and networking opportunities
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a leadership role within commercial insurance broking (Team Leader, Office Manager, or similar)
- Strong technical knowledge of SME commercial insurance, including new business, renewals, and mid-term adjustments
- Proven ability to act as a trusted technical referral resource for broking teams
- Experience managing workloads, handling insurer relationships, and resolving trading or placement issues
- Confident overseeing day-to-day operations and teams in the MD’s absence
- Highly organised, adaptable, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, growth-focused environment
