Stores Technician | Redcar & Cleveland | Full Time – 38 hours per week | Working hours are Monday to Thursday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (½ hour unpaid lunch break), and Friday, 7:00 am – 1:00 pm | £15.50 per hour
Our client is a family-owned and managed business, located in Redcar & Cleveland and near the North Yorkshire Moors. With a full order book, excellent financial stability, and a range of clients from the defence, energy, and commercial engineering sectors, they are also OEM for their marine product, the Tees White Gill thruster, which they export to six continents.
They are currently seeking a Stores Technician to be an essential part of their team! The ideal candidate will be an individual with a background in mechanical engineering, have strong organisational skills, be proactive with the ability to multitask, and with a focus on providing excellent all-around support.
Reporting to the Machine Shop Supervision Team, you will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operation of the engineering and general stores, ensuring that goods, tools, consumables, and measuring equipment are correctly received, stored, maintained, and issued in a timely and accurate manner, supporting the needs of production and the wider business.
Please note- Flexible working is available for this role, with alternative hours open for consideration; however, home working is not applicable.
Are you the right person for the job?
- Previous experience in a machine shop role
- Experience using machine shop tooling, including milling cutters, inserts, tool holders (collet chucks, arbors), turning tools, boring bars, and taps
- Familiarity with consumables, including coolants, deburring tools, measuring equipment, and workholding
- Basic understanding of stock control and inventory systems
- Good organisation and attention to detail
- Ability to use handheld tools safely
- Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent
- Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated
- Positive team player with a willingness to learn
- Adheres to health and safety procedures
- Able to carry out manual work and lift moderate loads
What will your role look like?
- Take receipt of deliveries, inspect incoming goods for damage or discrepancies
- Accurately receipt items on the ERP system and store in designated locations
- Report any discrepancies or faults to the Purchasing team
- Issue tools, measuring equipment, and consumables to production personnel as required, recording all movements
- Ensure returned tools are checked, cleaned, and stored appropriately
- Support with stock checks and audits
- Maintain the cleanliness, tidiness, and organisation of stores and tool crib areas
- Ensure walkways and exits are kept clear and comply with health and safety procedures
- Assist with the packaging of outgoing items, checking contents against dispatch notes
- Organise and prepare goods for courier collection in conjunction with the purchasing team
- Monitor stock levels of consumables and tooling
- Notify supervision when stock reaches reorder levels
- Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records
- Use handling equipment safely and according to training
- Follow all company health, safety and environmental and quality procedures
- Ensure PPE is used and stored correctly
- Accurately input data relating to stock movements and usage
- Maintain good filing and documentation habits to support traceability
