Are you the right person for the job?

We are looking for a warm, caring, and flexible individual with experience working with children and families, ideally those affected by domestic abuse. You will have:

  • Relevant qualifications with children and/or families
  • Experience supporting children up to 16 years old, including those with behavioural or emotional difficulties
  • Knowledge of the impact of domestic abuse on children and relevant legislation, guidelines, and policies
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and IT literacy
  • A positive, non-judgmental attitude and the ability to cope with challenging situations
  • First Aid, Child Protection, and Counselling training is desirable

What will your role look like?

  • Deliver a structured programme of activities for children in refuge, creating a safe and stimulating environment
  • Plan and implement weekly timetables for play, educational activities, and one-to-one support
  • Support mothers by providing childcare during meetings, admissions, or other activities
  • Maintain safe, clean, and welcoming spaces for children, including the children’s room and garden
  • Encourage school attendance, homework, healthy lifestyles, and emotional well-being
  • Monitor, evaluate, and record support using case management systems, ensuring confidentiality
  • Act as a liaison with local agencies and organisations to support children and families
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development activities
