Our client is a busy transport charity providing passenger transport support to a wide variety of organisations across East London, as well as delivering transport services on behalf of public bodies. They are seeking Drivers to safely and reliably transport young people, elderly passengers, and individuals with disabilities—often from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds—professionally and compassionately. This includes operating accessible passenger transport vehicles according to scheduled routes or as directed, while ensuring the comfort, dignity, and safety of all service users.
Are you the right person for the job?
- Valid UK driving licence with D1 entitlement, held for a minimum of two years
- No more than 3 penalty points, and no convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the past 10 years
- Experience driving passenger-carrying vehicles (up to 16 seats)
- Proficient in both spoken and written English
- Familiarity with Waltham Forest, Newham, and surrounding areas
- Basic mechanical understanding of vehicle operations
- Over 21 years of age (for insurance purposes)
- Good physical health and medically fit to perform duties, including:
- Ability to lift up to 25kg
- Pass alcohol and drug testing
- Pass eye and medical exams by CTWF-appointed practitioners
- Wheelchair restraint systems and harnesses
- Passenger lifts
- Fire safety equipment
What will your role look like?
- Operate scheduled routes to collect passengers from their homes and transport them to designated centres and return
- Escort passengers to and from the vehicle as required, working in partnership with a Passenger Assistant
- Safely operate tail lifts and other accessibility equipment to support passenger boarding and disembarking
Vehicle Safety and Operation
- Ensure vehicles are driven, parked, and operated with a focus on safety for all passengers and road users
- Conduct daily pre-journey checks including fuel, oil, water, tyres, lights, and reflectors
- Report and manage minor vehicle defects in accordance with company procedures
Equipment and Load Security
- Correctly secure all baggage and mobility aids, including wheelchairs, using approved restraints and storage methods
Record-Keeping and Communication
- Maintain accurate journey logs and service records
- Report passenger feedback, complaints, or incidents to management as required
- Communicate effectively with the CTWF dispatch team and attend meetings, training, and supervision as directed
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Report all accidents, incidents, or near-misses involving passengers, vehicles, or equipment
- Adhere to CTWF’s policies on Health & Safety, Safeguarding, and Equal Opportunities
- Comply with all applicable transport regulations and company standards.
Additional Duties
- Drive other vehicles within the CTWF fleet when required
- Be flexible with shift patterns and route changes, including at short notice
