The Role
You will be an experienced and dedicated Assistant Depot Manager assisting with the daily operations of the Milton Keynes depot and play a vital role in optimising logistics and warehouse operations. This energetic position offers the opportunity to lead daily depot activities, supervise staff and implement improvements that drive efficiency and accuracy. You will be instrumental in assisting with the management of transportation systems, overseeing shipping and receiving, and ensuring seamless supply chain workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Depot Manager in overseeing daily warehouse operations, including shipping, receiving and inventory management
- Supervise warehouse staff, ensuring safety protocols are followed and productivity targets are met
- Coordinate transportation management systems (TMS) to optimise delivery schedules and freight movements
- Support process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs and improve service levels
- Manage warehouse management system (WMS) and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems to track inventory accuracy and streamline workflows
- Oversee forklift operations, ensuring proper training, certification and safe handling of materials
- Monitor profit & loss statements to support financial accountability and identify opportunities for cost savings
Requirements
Essential
- Proven supervising experience within a logistics or warehouse environment
- Strong knowledge of supply chain processes, logistics management and warehouse operations
- Hands-on experience with transportation management systems (TMS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP systems and AS400 platforms
- Familiarity with shipping & receiving procedures, 3PL (Third-Party Logistics) providers and continuous improvement methodologies
- Demonstrated ability to lead process improvements that enhance operational performance
- Excellent organisational skills with a focus on safety compliance and operational accuracy
Desirable
- Warehouse experience with forklift certification
