The Role
As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for servicing, diagnosing faults, repairing, and maintaining ice cream, milkshake, coffee, refrigeration, and catering equipment for major hospitality customers, including KFC. Around 20% of service calls involve refrigeration faults, with the remaining work focused on fault finding, repairs, and resolving equipment operating issues. This is a Monday-Friday field-based role, with occasional weekend work required from time to time. The role offers door-to-door travel, covering London within the M25 area as part of a growing engineering team. Candidates should be based within a suitable commuting distance of London. The role requires a flexible and proactive approach to delivering high-quality, cost-effective repairs and maintenance on a range of equipment supplied and serviced by the company. You will work independently and collaboratively, providing a professional and reliable service while maintaining high standards of customer satisfaction, communication, and workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend customer premises to service, maintain, and commission refrigeration and catering equipment to a high standard
- Achieve a high first-time fix rate and minimise recalls through efficient use of labour and parts
- Demonstrate a positive and adaptable approach to service calls and workload, aligned with business needs
- Liaise with customers to ensure satisfaction and identify potential future business opportunities
- Contribute suggestions to improve maintenance and repair practices
- Identify and signal commercial opportunities to the Sales department
- Respond promptly to service requests as directed by the Service Centre
- Comply fully with company policies and Health & Safety guidelines
- Maintain clear and professional communication at all times
- Provide feedback and support to fellow engineers, supervisors, and call allocators
- Carry out any other duties as directed by service management
Requirements
Essential
- Proven experience in a field-based engineering role
- F-Gas qualification
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills
- Good refrigeration knowledge and experience
- Relevant experience working with commercial catering or refrigeration equipment
- Strong diagnostic skills with a logical approach to fault finding and problem solving
- Ability to use electrical test equipment and diagnose electrical faults, including components such as 3-phase contactors
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team
- Strong customer service skills with a professional and personable approach
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good organisation and time management skills
- Commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship and customer satisfaction
