Specialist Autism Support Worker | Leatherhead, Surrey | Full Time & Part Time | £13.50-£16.00 Per Hour
Our client is an independent home care provider dedicated to delivering compassionate, high-quality care to customers in the comfort of their own homes.
They are seeking warm, confident and resilient Support Workers to support a young person with autism, ADHD and a learning disability in the family home. The person enjoys conversation, humour, walking, shopping, music, YouTube and gaming, and responds best to workers who engage naturally and build trust.
The Role
As a Specialist Autism Support Worker, you will provide personalised support focused on building confidence, independence and a fulfilling daily life.
The role involves supporting the young person in the family home and during planned community activities, while following individual care plans, risk assessments, and approved support strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Build a positive relationship through meaningful conversation and shared interests
- Support personal care, daily living skills, healthy routines and greater independence
- Use Positive Behaviour Support and recognised de-escalation approaches
- Support safe, planned community activities, including 2:1 support where authorised
- Administer and record medication only when trained, competent and authorised
- Monitor wellbeing, nutrition and risks
- Complete clear daily records and incident reports
- Work respectfully with family members, colleagues and other professionals
- Recognise early signs of distress and respond appropriately to reduce triggers and maintain safety
Requirements
Essential
- Experience supporting people with autism, learning disabilities, ADHD or behaviours of concern
- Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support, safeguarding and least restrictive practice
- A calm, friendly and confident manner
- Patience and a good sense of humour
- Ability to recognise early signs of distress, reduce triggers and respond safely
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Good written recording skills
- Reliability and flexibility
- Confidence working within a family home
- Willingness to follow individual care plans, risk assessments, emergency procedures and approved support strategies
- Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory safer recruitment checks
- Appropriate references
- Successful completion of induction, shadowing and competency assessment
Desirable
- Full UK driving licence
- Access to a vehicle
