Help us share the story of Cameo! We are seeking a creative Digital Content Writer to join our volunteer team. You’ll collaborate with trustees to craft engaging content for our digital channels, raising vital awareness and supporting those living with dementia.

What difference will you make? Many families in our community feel isolated when a loved one is diagnosed with dementia. By creating high-quality digital content, you aren’t just writing - you are building a bridge. Your words will help a carer realise they aren’t alone and show potential donors exactly how their contributions change lives.

What are we looking for?

  • Essential Experience
    • Strong Writing Skills – Ability to transform day-to-day activities at the centre into engaging, warm, and readable stories.
    • Marketing Instincts – An understanding of how to tailor tone and messaging for different audiences, from local donors to families seeking help.
  • Core Qualities
    • Empathy & Dignity – A sensitive approach to writing about dementia, focusing on the personhood and joy of our members rather than just the diagnosis.
    • Self-Motivation – Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with our board of trustees.
    • Creative Eye – The knack for spotting the story in a simple music session or a shared cup of tea.

The perfect fit is a storyteller at heart – someone who understands that their words help local families feel less alone and inspire donors to support our mission in Sunbury-on-Thames.

What will you be doing?

  • Storytelling & Awareness
    • Your primary goal is to bring the daily life of the centre to life. You will take the heart-warming, everyday moments at Cameo and turn them into compelling narratives. This includes:
      • Writing blog posts or articles that highlight the impact of our services.
      • Drafting social media updates (Facebook, Instagram) that engage our local Sunbury-on-Thames community.
      • Creating "Client Spotlights" or "Volunteer Stories" that show the human side of dementia care.
  • Strategic Content Development
    • We don’t just need someone to write; we need someone to help us think ahead. Working alongside our trustees and volunteer team, you will:
      • Help develop a simple content calendar to ensure we are posting consistently.
      • Identify key themes or awareness days (like World Alzheimer’s Month) to align our content with.
      • Ensure all messaging remains empathetic, dignified, and hopeful, reflecting Cameo’s core values.
  • Digital Marketing Support
    • To help us reach more families who need our support, you will:
      • Optimise content – Write clear, engaging copy for our website to make it easy for families to find the information they need.
      • Email Newsletters – Draft periodic updates for our supporters, donors, and the families of our members.
      • Basic Analysis – Occasionally look at which posts are performing well to help us understand what our community cares about most.

Time Commitment – Mostly outside office hours. Estimate of time needed: 8 hours/month. We would appreciate a volunteer committed for a minimum of 6 months but ideally on a longer term basis. We can be flexible on how many hours you are able to freely volunteer. The position is remote, with occasional visits (if possible) to the charity location.
