We design pedestrianisation schemes, award‑winning central London projects such as the West End Project, Healthy School Streets and progressive parking policies. The role involves helping deliver on the ambitious goals of the Camden Transport Strategy by delivering neighbourhood‑based Healthy Streets projects. These include localised safety schemes, Healthy School Streets (HSS), low‑traffic neighbourhood initiatives and the pedestrianisation of Camden High Street. The Healthy Streets team is at the forefront of project delivery and has recently secured a top placement in the Healthy Streets Scorecard. You will be responsible for project‑managing the development and implementation of multiple small to medium‑sized “Healthy Streets” projects across Camden’s neighbourhoods. Your role will also support Senior officers with programme and project management for high‑profile schemes. Projects focus on road safety, bus priority, walking, cycling, traffic reduction and public realm improvement. Examples of schemes you may lead include Fitzrovia Phase 1 (in construction), St George The Martyr (HSS) (decision made), King Henrys Road Area (nearing construction) and Holmes Road (made permanent).
Key duties include:

- Monitoring, funding, budgeting and financial controls
You will think innovatively about how Healthy Streets projects support wider improvements to the public realm, the climate emergency, urban greening and more, ensuring projects are delivered on time and on budget. The role requires close collaboration across departments – planning, regeneration and sustainability, highways and parking – to align with Camden’s wider urban planning and sustainability initiatives, including the Climate Action Plan.
About you: You are a Senior Transport Planner who can bring your experience to support Camden Council’s transport planning function. You have managed or supported large projects or programmes, ideally with transport planning advice on new developments, and have experience in project governance and information management. You are collaborative, relationship‑focused and possess strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with colleagues at all levels. You demonstrate the ability to provide senior leaders with confidence that projects are on track to meet time, cost and quality criteria.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Knowledge of the policy and statutory framework – locally, regionally and nationally – around the Euston Masterplan, Healthy Streets, transport planning and related activities.
- Skill and experience in project management – capable of delivering Healthy Streets transport infrastructure projects on time and to budget.
- Experience and understanding of healthy streets and strategic transport planning projects, including input to planning applications and teamwork on projects of significant size, value and complexity.
- Appreciation of key streetscape design issues and challenges, including accessibility and sustainability.
- Good partnership working skills and ability to develop effective stakeholder relations on transport matters, including liaising and negotiating with relevant external organisations.
- Capacity to communicate clearly and sensitively in community engagement activities and with elected members, and understanding of inclusive community engagement.
- Ability to support and oversee the workload of more junior team members and/or consultants, and an understanding of how industry consultants operate.
- Strong analytical and report writing skills.
- Good presenting skills.
- Demonstrates initiative and a pro‑active, forward‑thinking approach to carrying out work.
- Good political awareness and sensitivity.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of corporate policies and strategies.
- Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in Transport Planning or Project Management.
