About Camden: Camden is changing on the inside to make life better for everyone. Our residents and communities are at the heart of everything we do. We’re home to the most important conversations happening today and we’re making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind.

What You’ll Be Doing: Sitting in the Private Sector Housing Service, within the Housing and Communities Directorate, the primary objective of the role is to improve standards within the private rented sector within Camden, whether this be through the investigation of complaints or through our Houses in Multiple Occupation licensing schemes. The role will enable you to utilise the full range of enforcement tools to tackle sub-standard private rented accommodation within the Borough, from HMO Licensing, improvement notices to Final Management Orders and Banning Orders.

All About You: We are looking for a motivated Environmental Health professional who is passionate about improving housing standards in the private rented sector. You will need to be a qualified Environmental Health Officer (EHRB registered or Chartered). You will have a good understanding of the Housing Act 2004 and relevant housing legislation, with the ability to apply this knowledge to investigations and casework. You will be confident preparing clear reports, notices and other documentation, and supporting enforcement action where necessary. You will demonstrate a good understanding of housing construction and property standards, including awareness of improvement trends such as energy efficiency. Strong organisational skills will help you manage your workload effectively while maintaining a customer-focused approach. You will also have strong communication and collaboration skills, enabling you to explain complex issues clearly and work effectively with colleagues, residents, landlords and partners. Attention to detail and the ability to handle sensitive information responsibly will also be important in this role.

How To Apply: To apply for this job please follow the "Apply" link. In the ‘Why you?’ section of the application you will be required to demonstrate how you meet the role criteria noted in the Job Profile under the “About You” section. We strongly encourage applicants to write their applications themselves. While we understand the growing use of AI tools, we believe that personal reflection and authenticity are key to a strong application. Please avoid using AI-generated content when applying.

What We Offer: At Camden, you’ll receive a host of benefits. From flexible working to 27 days annual leave (+ bank holidays!). We also know that a work life balance is extremely important so we also offer family leave, loan schemes and access to our incredible staff networks. We also have an incredible pensions scheme.

Inclusion and Belonging: At Camden, we want every colleague to feel they belong and can thrive. We welcome applications from all parts of our community, and particularly encourage people from Black, Asian and Other Ethnic Heritage communities, LGBTQ+ people, disabled and neurodiverse people, survivors of domestic abuse, and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds or with care experience. We know that different voices and perspectives make us stronger, and we are committed to providing the support, adjustments and flexibility people need to succeed.

Asking for Adjustments: At Camden, we are committed to making our recruitment process barrier-free and accessible for everyone. If you need us to do something differently during the application, interview or assessment process, just let us know and we will support you. This could include providing information in an alternative format, extra time in assessments, or adjustments for disabled, neurodiverse or long-term health conditions.

Anonymised Application: In keeping with Camden’s commitment to inclusion the recruitment to this role is anonymised and supports the objective of reducing the impact of unconscious bias.
