We have an exciting opportunity for an Activity Co-Ordinator to join our team on Maples ward. The Activity Co-Ordinator holds a key role across our wards and services, providing vital care and support to our service users, providing social and therapeutic activities. Their contribution to the running of an effective service is crucial and they are a key part of the team.

If you are looking for a new challenge and enjoy working in a dynamic environment, you are able to work flexibly, creatively, and efficiently within the MDT and have excellent communication skills, supporting and motivating older adults (some with a diagnosis of dementia) to engage in meaningful activity both on the ward and in the community. This will be dependent on the changing needs of the patient group, and informed by close team working, handover meetings, and case discussions.

You may be required to undertake and successfully complete the new national Care Certificate within a 12 weeks' time frame if you meet our criteria. You will receive full training and support, and the Care Certificate sets out 15 national care standards that must be achieved by all health and social care staff to demonstrate that they have the skills and knowledge needed to provide safe and excellent quality of care. It is a foundation programme which can provide the first steps to career development within the NHS.

Main duties of the job:
  • The provision and co-ordination of meaningful group and activity sessions for service users.
  • The development of activities with individuals and the provision of support to enable people to engage in activity.
  • To offer group-based sessions with a focus on skill development/social inclusion/communication/education and recovery.
  • Providing support and practical assistance to service users for them to regain confidence in their skills and abilities to enable a successful reintegration into the community.
  • Inspiring hope and belief that recovery is possible in others.
  • Within a relationship of mutuality, facilitate and support information sharing to promote choice, self-determination and opportunities for the fulfilment of socially valued roles and connection to local communities.
  • Promotion of their role within the ward and wider care setting.

Person specification:
  • Good level of secondary education to GCSE level.
  • Level of educational attainment to NVQ 3 / AS Level or equivalent.
  • Related Health or Social Care qualification.
  • Willingness to undertake further training in line with the Trust recommendation.
  • Experience of in-patient services and working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Basic level of dealing with service users with complex mental health needs.
  • Experience of being in a supportive and enabling role.
  • Experience of working in the public sector.
  • Experience of training, teaching, coaching/mentoring others.
  • Experience of working across different organisational boundaries.
  • Excellent written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Computer literate.
  • Able to relate to a wide range of people.
  • Level of good assertiveness skills.
  • Decision making, delegation and problem-solving skills.
