Job Overview
Join our warm, innovative Cambridgeshire Children’s Services team to provide specialist assessment and management for children with neurodevelopmental conditions, long‑term disabilities, complex health needs and child protection medical assessments. The role is based mainly in Peterborough and North Cambridgeshire (Huntingdonshire & Fenland). You will work closely with therapists, nurses, psychologists, educational partners and other multidisciplinary teams.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver specialist assessment and management for children with neurodevelopmental and neuro‑disability conditions across Peterborough and North Cambridgeshire.
- Conduct statutory Child in Care (CIC) and adoption health assessments, including those with complex healthcare needs.
- Advise other agencies on the health management of looked‑after children.
- Participate in the safeguarding medical rota, based at the Oaktree Centre in Huntingdon (non‑urgent, Monday‑Friday).
- Support neurodevelopmental and neuro‑disability pathways of care in the north of the county.
- Provide clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and research activity as part of your clinical practice and CPD.
- Supervise and support trainees, medical students and allied health professionals.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
- Full registration with the GMC.
- Higher medical qualification appropriate to the role – MRCPCH or equivalent.
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Paediatrics (or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview).
Experience
- Experience assessing and managing children with complex physical needs and neurodisability.
- Experience of adult health issues that affect the care of children placed in their care.
- Valid BLS training.
- Higher specialist training in community paediatrics.
Skills & Knowledge
- Experience in clinical and educational supervision.
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience completing clinical audits, quality improvement and service development.
- Competent in supervising trainees in child protection medical assessments.
- Effective communication with children and young people, including those with complex needs.
- Ability to review, summarise and interpret information from a range of sources (e.g., write a chronology/summary for adoption reports).
- Meets the GMC’s ’Good Medical Practice’ standards.
