As a staff nurse here, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high quality, compassionate care, working collaboratively with the MDT in implementation of personalised treatment plans. Support patients in a holistic manner on their recovery journey, use your clinical expertise to contribute to a therapeutic environment and champion a compassionate patient-focused approach. The ideal candidate should have a strong teamwork ethic, positive can-do attitude, strong communication skills, sense of accountability and responsibility, accompanied by resilience and an ability to work under pressure at times. A good sense of humour is also valued.

Main duties of the job:

  • To be responsible & accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the evidence-based care required, including health promotion for named service users ensuring it meets Trust timescales.
  • To participate in the setting of quality standards, including the monitoring and reviewing in line with current clinical guidance practice and policy.
  • To ensure the post holder understands and meets their professional role and responsibilities under the Care Programme Approach.
  • To ensure that the requirements of the Mental Health Act 2007 are observed, adhered to, and implemented.
  • To promote carer and service user involvement within the service and for its provision.
  • To encourage recovery, discovery, and independence, considering risk assessment and management.
  • To establish therapeutic relationships with service users and the implementation of evidence-based therapeutic interventions with appropriate boundaries in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council's professional code of conduct.
  • To demonstrate care and compassion in your work.
  • To respect and value the different therapeutic approaches within the multi-disciplinary team but ensure that the agreed philosophy approach is adopted and followed.
  • To be responsible for maintaining and conducting oneself in a professional manner towards service users, carers, colleagues, and other agencies at all times.

Person specification:

  • Education & Qualification: Registered Nurse Mental Health (RNMH) or other specialism relating to post such as Registered Nurse Learning Disability (RNLD).
  • Experience: Experience of inpatient service and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team; experience of dealing with service users with complex mental health needs; experience of running, coordinating shifts as a nurse in charge.
  • Skills & Abilities: Excellent communication skills both verbally and written, including IT literacy (MS Office); ability to work as part of a team, as a role model, empowering and motivating other team members; enthusiastic, positive approach and can participate in full rotational shifts; ability to carry out physical interventions (PMVA) as a last resort; ability to keep calm and respond appropriately under pressure; ability to take accountability and responsibility for the completion, follow through of duties assigned; thorough understanding of care planning.
  • Physical Requirements: Physically able to undertake a demanding role safely and associated mandatory training (Breakaways, Physical intervention training).
  • Other: Willingness to be flexible in approach and attitude; demonstrates an understanding of and interest in collaborating with this client group; initiative-taking, with a can-do attitude; creative, innovative thinker; strong work ethic; resilience; willingness, ability to drive the ward pool car to support engagement in community-based needs for our patients; ability to travel independently around the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area meeting required timescales. A full driving licence is essential.
