We are currently seeking a research nurse to join our small but vibrant research team for maternity cover. The post holder will be responsible for the provision of high quality, patient focused NIHR Portfolio clinical research studies, investigating cardiovascular disease. They will predominantly be helping to recruit to and deliver the POPPY study – a large multi-site study examining links between pregnancy complications and future increased cardiovascular risk, by recruiting women planning their first pregnancy.

Main duties of the job

  • Identifying and recruiting eligible clinical research participants
  • Undertaking research assessments and providing information and support to participants
  • Assisting with study specific administrative tasks, following study protocols

You will participate in patient and public involvement and engagement activities, and liaise with other staff members and organisations, as required.

Qualifications

  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Degree
  • Research Module Certificate in Clinical Research

Experience

  • Relevant clinical experience at Band 5 or above
  • Experience of formal/informal teaching
  • Experience of working within multi‑disciplinary teams
  • Experience of working in a clinical research environment e.g. Clinical Trials, participant recruitment and interviewing
  • Experience of co‑ordinating REC and HRA submissions
  • NHS Experience

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of clinical research infrastructure in the UK and of research related legislation & regulation
  • Understand the structure, role & functions of RECs and R&D departments
  • Understanding of the requirements of ICH Good Clinical Practice; possess current GCP Certificate
  • Knowledge of the role of the clinical research nurse; understanding the issues/process of gaining informed consent
  • Basic knowledge of research methods
  • Competent in research/database PC packages
  • Awareness of Trust/National strategies/initiatives in NIHR/R&D IT Packages

Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: ability to develop good working relationships with diverse study participants, healthcare professionals and external agencies
  • Capable of working as an integral member of a small team
  • Good organisational, time & project management skills: able to plan, prioritise & co‑ordinate work under pressure
  • Ability to work unsupervised and manage own workload, effective time management
  • Able to support participants through the informed consent process
  • Numerate with good IT skills; competent in standard PC packages (Windows, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access)
  • Proven administrative skills with attention to detail
  • Relevant clinical skills e.g. Haemodynamic monitoring, venepuncture
