Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Rheumatology with a specialist interest in Inflammatory Arthritis (10PAs) at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a substantive post to commence as soon as possible.

Main duties of the job:

  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of Rheumatology.
  • To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Rheumatology service.
  • Teaching and training of resident staff and medical students in Rheumatology.
  • To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
  • To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).

You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Rheumatology or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice. Applications from job seekers who require skilled worker sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications.

It is a requirement for skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, to present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

The Rheumatology service in Cambridge is based at the Addenbrooke’s Hospital site with satellite clinics at Ely, Saffron Walden and Newmarket. The Rheumatology team consists of eleven Rheumatology Consultants, eleven Rheumatology Practitioners and two Deanery Registrars. The team have close links with other specialities such as Gastroenterology, Renal Medicine, Vasculitis, Neurology and Dermatology and benefit from several established MDT meetings. The service is supported by an excellent team of Musculoskeletal Radiologists. There is an established early arthritis service with clinics at Addenbrooke’s and Newmarket Hospitals, psoriatic arthritis and spondylitis service, connective tissue disease service and metabolic bone disease unit. There is also an established rheumatology research unit supported by the Consultant team, a Clinical Fellow and Research Nurses.
