ERSOU – ROCU – Police Staff SO1-PO2 Financial Investigator – Regional Economic Crime Unit (RECU)
Join the Eastern Region Special Operation Unit’s (ERSOU) Regional Economic Crime Unit (RECU) and play a vital role in tackling serious and organised crime across the Eastern Region. Accredited Financial Investigators work at the forefront of asset recovery, ensuring crime does not pay. We have one current vacancy within the Proceeds of Crime Unit (POCU) based at Newmarket, Suffolk. Successful candidates who are board‑passed will be considered for future vacancies which could be based at either Newmarket or Stevenage.
The Role
As a Financial Investigator in the RECU, you will be responsible for providing specialist financial investigative support, conducting asset recovery investigations, handling a high caseload of criminal and civil cases, and presenting evidence in court while engaging with legal representatives to ensure effective management of investigations and hearings.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist financial investigative support to serious and organised crime investigations at force or regional level.
- Conduct asset recovery investigations to disrupt criminality and use all available powers to recover assets under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and related legislation.
- Manage a high caseload of both criminal and civil investigations.
- Present evidence in court and engage with legal representatives to ensure effective management of investigations and hearings.
Qualifications
- Ideally, full or partial NCA Financial Investigator accreditation (including Confiscator Parts 2, 5 & 8).
- Strong knowledge of POCA 2002 and related legislation.
- Comprehensive report‑writing and IT skills (especially Excel).
- Inquisitive, decisive, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and tactful communication.
- Willingness to participate in an on‑call rota for out‑of‑hours financial enquiries (currently one shift every 10 weeks).

Vetting & Eligibility
Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting (5‑year residency criteria) and Security Clearance (5‑year residency criteria) or Development Vetting where applicable before taking up the post. This post is designated a ‘reserved post’ under Civil Service Nationality Rules and is open only to UK Nationals. Dual nationality holders may be required to relinquish non‑British nationality if successful. Applicants must also meet the UK nationality and residency criteria detailed by ERSOU.
