Consultant Psychiatrist Mulberry 2 in Cambourne

The appointee will provide Consultant leadership and psychiatric input into the acute inpatient unit at the Cavell centre. They will work with the multidisciplinary team and establish good liaison and links with the community teams.

The inpatient consultants across the Fulbourn Adult Mental health wards work closely together, providing cross cover for leave and SPA time but also offering support and clinical input. The ward has a full-time middle grade post to support and there is robust junior doctor cover in the form of speciality doctors/higher trainees and core psychiatric trainees. In addition, all inpatient teams are supported by FY trainees. Therefore, supervision of Resident doctors and training is a key part of the role.

The post will involve close working relationship with modern matron, nurse specialists and team managers. There will be opportunities to take on management responsibilities both internally within the trust as well as externally with the Royal College. Mentoring will also be provided to help the new consultant settle in.

The consultant will work in accordance with the New Ways of Working initiative for Consultants, attend regular team meetings such as MDT meetings and formulation meetings to discuss clinical issues with team members, care coordinators, inpatient doctors and other statutory agencies as required for the care of community patients.

Consultant Psychiatrists are a valuable and finite resource within our clinical services and whilst the primary responsibility for every consultant is the delivery of a high-quality clinical service, all consultants will be expected to be actively involved in the strategic development of the service and work with their non-medical senior leaders to steer the development of their service in line with the strategic direction of the organisation.
