Bedfordshire Police are inviting applications for the role of Police Constable through the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship. The Apprenticeship combines on-the-job learning with earning a fully funded degree, while starting a career as a police officer from day one.

If you are successful in the police officer application process, you will be asked to provide evidence of your academic qualifications for assessment by Anglia Ruskin University. If you do not have copies of GCSE, O Level, CSE or A-Level certificates you can request a certified statement of results. If these are not supplied when requested, this may delay progress.

Academic requirements evidence:

  • GCSE Maths and English at a minimum of grade C or 4 (or equivalent such as level 2 functional skills in Maths and English).

Additional criteria:

  • Passes in two A Levels (or equivalent) with 32 UCAS points will automatically meet academic entry requirements, or any other Level 3 qualification.
  • Applicants with fewer than 32 UCAS points may be considered if they have at least one year’s employment in a role with comparable skills to policing or relevant academic study. These applicants will undertake an aptitude test followed by a suitability discussion; meeting the university entry requirements may be achieved if criteria are satisfied.

Applicants must hold a full UK manual driving licence at the time of application. This is a mandatory requirement for all Police Officers, and applicants must meet eligibility for becoming a police officer and pass the Police Online Recruit Assessment Centre.

The next step, after a successful application and ARU review, is the virtual national assessment centres.

This role has been identified as high-risk for potential DNA and fingerprint contamination within forensic processes. Successful candidates will be required to provide a DNA and fingerprint elimination sample as part of pre-employment checks. The sample will be used for contamination elimination purposes and held on a secure database in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR. Provision of this sample is a condition of employment for roles identified as high-risk.
