Cambridgeshire Constabulary is seeking to employ Solicitors or Barristers to be based in the Legal Services Department working at its Huntingdon Headquarters. The site is accessible by public transport and there is free car parking on site.

You will be part of a small. friendly team providing comprehensive legal services to the Chief Constable, the Constabulary, its officers and staff.

The work of the Department is varied and covers both operational policing and litigation. The full-time roles will focus on civil preventative orders, civil litigation claims, family court disclosure application and employment litigation. In addition, you will be asked to advise and represent the Constabulary in all areas of the Department’s caseload including inquests, police misconduct, employment, licencing, crime and antisocial behaviour.

Please note, candidates successful at shortlisting will be required to undertake an assessment as part of the interview process.

Starting salary of £53,667 rising with service up to £58,242

Normal working hours – 37 hours per week.

Duties Include

  • Representing the Chief Constable at Court hearings
  • Working with Police Officers and Staff to seek opportunities for, and advise upon, Civil Preventative Orders and safeguarding opportunities, including Anti-Social Behaviour Injunctions, Forced Marriage Protection Orders, Stalking Protection Orders, and others.
  • Overseeing the process for civil claims against the police, including the investigation of claims, assessing liability and quantum and working alongside the Insurance department.
  • Dealing with applications for disclosure in the Family Court
  • Advising and representing the Chief Constable in relation to Employment Tribunals
  • Representing the Constabulary at inquests and public inquiries. Providing advice to officers and staff in relation to the same.
  • Providing legal advice to Police Officers regarding police policies, misconduct, operational tactics and covert authorities when requested

About You.

You must be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a current practicing certificate. Experience of police law is desirable, but not essential. Appropriate training can be provided.

Vetting And Medical

Successful applicants will be required to pass Management Vetting prior to commencing their role.

Please be aware there is a minimum 5 year UK residency required for Management Vetting.
