Bedfordshire Police are seeking reliable and motivated General Cleaners to deliver high-quality cleaning services across our estate. This is a varied, hands-on role supporting both planned and reactive cleaning requirements across multiple police sites. You will play a key role in maintaining clean, safe, and secure environments, including operationally sensitive areas such as custody suites, ensuring full compliance with health, safety, and infection control standards. This role is essential in supporting frontline policing by helping to maintain effective working environments across the organisation. You will be assigned to designated areas within the Bedfordshire estate to complete scheduled cleaning tasks, while also responding to urgent or ad-hoc requirements as needed. You will be responsible for the safe use of equipment and cleaning products in line with COSHH and Health & Safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality cleaning services across police sites, including offices, communal areas, welfare facilities, and operational environments such as Custody.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection prevention, including effective touchpoint cleaning.
  • Safely use cleaning equipment, chemicals, and PPE in line with COSHH regulations and Health & Safety procedures.
  • Follow colour-coded cleaning systems and safe task sequencing to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Accurately complete cleaning records, including logs and reporting any issues or shortages.
  • Identify and report hazards, maintenance issues, or security concerns promptly.
  • Respond flexibly to operational priorities, including urgent or reactive cleaning requirements.

About You

  • Experience delivering consistent cleaning standards, ideally across multiple sites.
  • Knowledge of hygiene practices and safe use of cleaning products.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety requirements in a workplace setting.
  • Experience using cleaning equipment or machinery.
  • Ability to follow procedures, instructions, and schedules.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with colleagues at all levels.
  • Basic IT skills (e.g. email, reporting, timesheets).

You must also be able to:

  • Work independently and use initiative.
  • Undertake physical tasks including standing, bending, and lifting equipment.
  • Successfully pass police vetting (RV level).
  • Undertake a basic police driving test (where required for the role).

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience in public sector, emergency services, healthcare, or similar environments.
  • Familiarity with infection control processes and touchpoint cleaning standards.
  • Full UK driving licence.
