The Pharmacy Support Worker carries out duties in support of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and also carries out general and administrative duties within the dispensary.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Dispensing of medicines for inpatients and outpatients including use of the pharmacy labelling and stock control computer system.
  • Participating in the day to day work of the mental health unit dispensary, providing quality, accurate dispensing.
  • Participating in the supply of medicines in the form of in and out-patient dispensing, including accurate prescription receipt, labelling and assembly, and ensuring prompt completion and distribution, in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Contributing to the smooth running of the clozapine service.
  • Ordering of stock medication for wards and distribution of medicines to the wards.
  • Maintaining working stock levels of pharmaceuticals and other items, including bottles and consumables in the dispensary.
  • Participating in the stock control process including stock checking, receipt and storage of medicines and other items.
  • Processing the disposal of stock returned from wards and departments.
  • Performing general housekeeping duties to maintain the dispensary environment to the standards required.
  • Communicating with service users, carers and members of staff at the pharmacy hatch and telephone about the availability of medicines and other issues.
