Are you an experienced Learning Disability nurse who is passionate about improving people’s lives? We’re looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Band 6 Senior Community Learning Disability Nurse. Our service focuses on putting an individual’s right to choice, independence, health and wellbeing at the centre of everything we do through a multi-disciplinary approach. We work to implement the assessment and provision of person-centred specialist health and social care services that promote service users’ right to choose, in line with their assessed needs and in a way that enables them to reach their full potential. This role is varied and challenging, with strong support from a network of colleagues in a multi-disciplinary setting. Responsibilities

  • To participate in the delivery of a countywide specialist LD nursing service under the guidance of the Lead Nurse by managing a caseload of clients with complex learning disabilities.
  • To provide professional supervision to other staff/students as appropriate, including appraisal and professional development, particularly mandatory training.
  • To contribute to the planning, development, and evaluation of learning disability services, including defined projects delegated by the LDP management team via the Lead Nurse.
  • As an autonomous practitioner, to manage a specialist caseload providing assessment, identification and treatment of the health needs of adults with a learning disability.
  • To participate in multidisciplinary/multi-agency work within the LDP and with key partners.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • The post holder will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of working with adults with a learning disability and be willing to undertake appropriate post-registration training.
  • Understand Health and Social Care policy and legislation for the service user group in relation to professional practice.
  • Keep up to date and support the implementation of national recommendations including LeDeR findings and other health initiatives to reduce health inequalities and improve the health of people with a learning disability.
  • Have a good understanding of the specific needs of the service user group, including during crises (e.g., placement breakdowns, mental health and physical health relapses, and challenging behaviour).
  • Recognise the impact of a person’s communication needs and tailor interaction to meet these needs.
  • Have the ability to communicate very sensitive or distressing information to service users and carers as required.
  • Have skills in conflict resolution and positive behaviour approaches.
  • Plan, implement and regularly review nursing care plans.

Additional Information

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence and have use of a vehicle.
