Job Overview
A rare opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 3 Health Care Assistant (full‑time or part‑time) to join our team across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. The main aspect of the role is to care for patients with chronic respiratory disease in the home setting and in our Pulmonary Rehabilitation Classes. The post entails supporting health care professionals in providing expert care for respiratory patients, helping to prevent avoidable hospital attendances, providing facilitated support following hospital admission, assisting in Pulmonary Rehabilitation Classes, and promoting focused self‑management. The successful candidate will work flexibly across the county‑wide respiratory service to cover as necessary. We are a very supportive and friendly team, and the role requires respiratory and/or community experience; full training and support is available.
Responsibilities
- Assist the physiotherapist in the delivery of face‑to‑face and virtual pulmonary rehabilitation programmes and motivate patients throughout the course.
- Support the delivery of high‑standard health care, following prescribed packages of care and assisting patients within their community setting.
- Provide care to patients with deterioration in health or function, focusing on admission avoidance to acute hospitals.
- Deliver functional assessments including mobility and appropriate exercise and equipment provision.
- Support staff in the management and execution of clinical practice, carrying out duties delegated and supervised by registered professionals.
- Overcome barriers to understanding, for example patients with hearing or cognitive impairment.
- Communicate with patients/carers by exchanging factual information, reassurance, tact and empathy.
- Establish and maintain appropriate working relationships with colleagues, patients, carers and other health‑care professionals.
- Ensure equipment is used safely, follow relevant training and maintain it appropriately.
- Work under guidance on specified tasks, taking direction from registered and non‑registered staff as appropriate, with regular clinical support and supervision by a qualified practitioner.
- Demonstrate awareness and understanding of consent and gain consent as appropriate following organisational policies.
- Attend relevant external and internal courses to extend knowledge or gain relevant skills to improve clinical practice.
Travel & Vehicle Requirements
Travel independently around the county, meeting strict time deadlines. You must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle; use of public transport is not permitted.
Qualifications & Experience
Experience in respiratory and/or community care is anticipated. The post is for Band 3 Health Care Assistant and requires full training and support.
