We are looking for a highly capable and forward-thinking Business Test Manager to join our team. In this role, you will lead the delivery of high-quality testing that ensures our systems are robust, reliable, and fully aligned with customer needs. As our Business Test Manager, you will elevate our testing practice to the next level—driving high-volume, high-quality outputs while championing the use of AI-enhanced testing methods and intelligent automation.
This role plays a key part in ensuring that Cambridge International's evolving IT landscape continues to meet business needs. Reporting to the Head of Product Ownership and Business Testing, the focus is on building and nurturing a team of Test Coordinators and Testers across the organisation to consistently, efficiently, and effectively test business developments as systems evolve. In this role, you will manage and execute high-quality testing to ensure new and updated legacy systems meet business requirements, with rigorous regression testing central to mitigating risk to system and data integrity.
Additional responsibilities and accountabilities include:
- Capture and articulate knowledge into a long-term repository, highlighting the significance of each application and the impact of failure to the business.
- Identify test environment requirements for end-to-end business process testing and liaise with ETO as needed.
- Define required test data, managing Business Testing Coordinators and supporting Test Leads to ensure all pre-requisite data is prepared or supplied.
- Lead Business Test Team activities across evaluation, estimation, resourcing, preparation, execution and closure.
- Demonstrate expert-level testing capability, contributing to testing of high-profile and complex systems to ensure defect-free software.
- Manage cross-portfolio testing, coordinating resources to ensure high-quality assurance for specified products.
- Take responsibility for quality-assuring defined programmes of work, influencing project teams to apply consistent QA procedures and supporting both customer-facing and end-to-end internal processes.
This position has been classified as a hybrid role, requiring the selected candidate to typically spend 40-60% of their time collaborating and connecting face-to-face at their dedicated location. Aside from our hybrid principles, other flexible working requests will be considered from the first day of employment, including other work arrangements should you require adjustments due to a disability or long-term health condition.
The successful candidate will have strong experience in leading testing teams and delivering high-quality software testing, including the use of AI-powered and automated testing tools. They will ideally hold an ISTQB (or equivalent) certification and have solid knowledge of formal testing methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, V-Model), risk-based testing, and the use of test management and ALM tools such as qTest and JIRA.
Essential Criteria:
- Proven experience leading and delivering business testing in complex or high-assurance environments.
- Ability to plan, prioritise, and manage testing activities and teams to meet business and delivery deadlines.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with confidence explaining complex information to non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to balance quality, risk, and pragmatism, particularly where outcomes impact learners or customers.
- Calm, resilient, and effective under pressure, with a positive, can-do approach.
- Strong collaborative skills, including the ability to resolve conflict and work effectively across on-shore and off-shore teams.
- Commitment to high standards of quality and integrity.
- A good understanding of IT systems—including workflows, databases, integrations, APIs—and the ability to analyse data to produce actionable insights.
- Clear demonstration of Cambridge Assessment Group values: Collaborative, Responsible, and Innovative.
- Highly analytical, detail-focused, systematic in planning and reporting, and comfortable interpreting technical documentation.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience working in education, assessment, or regulated environments.
- Contribution to a testing or quality community of practice, internally or externally.
- Interest in new testing tools, techniques, and technologies, with a willingness to explore their adoption.
- Interest in building testing capability and maturity, not just delivering individual projects.
- Experience coaching or mentoring others within delivery or testing teams.
- Experience working across distributed or off-shore teams.
If you meet the above minimum requirements, we encourage you to apply.
Rewards and benefits include:
- 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays
- Private medical and Permanent Health Insurance
- Discretionary annual bonus
- Group personal pension scheme
- Life assurance up to 4 x annual salary
- Green travel schemes
